Amy Jarecki | Born to be a Princess but Destined to Become an Outcast

October 3, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release?

A PRINCESS IN PLAID

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Lady Grace was born to be a princess but destined to become an outcast.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

A Princess in Plaid is part of a series (though it can be read as a stand-alone) about the children of a Scottish dukedom and how they find love. All the books are set in Great Britain for the most part.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

After Lady Grace realizes how awful she has been in the past, absolutely, yes. She is amazing!

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Grace is refined, educated, and lovely. Frasier (the man she falls in love with) is rugged, determined, and protective.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned some things about the history of Lithuania. I also learned that snow removal was quite different in the early 1800s. Rather than shovel/clear the roads, they outfitted their carriages with skis.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit as I go, but the real work begins once the story is written.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I love ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I live in a Victorian house that I have furnished to be historically correct. My office is the house’s library with a roll-top desk, a library table, a secretary and bookcases lining the north wall. Nonetheless, take no not of the standing desk with the computer and large monitor!

10–Who is an author you admire?

There are so many. At the moment I’m reading a book by Anna Bradley and she’s marvelous!

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Yes. I used to read a lot of Tom Clancy and I read one that was ghost written which wasn’t up to par. It made me think that I might try my hand at writing a book. Umpteen years and 47 books later, I’m still at it!

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I was in the middle of a quiet dinner with my husband. Needless to say, after dancing around the house like a maniac, we went to the Dairy Queen and celebrated with one of our favorite ice cream cakes!

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Lately I’ve been reading a lot of Women’s Fiction (Kristan Higgins is amazing)

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Pride and Prejudice

15–What is your favorite season?

Winter

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Quietly so no one knows I’m yet ANOTHER year older!

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I really enjoyed The Witcher on Netflix.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I have to pick one? How about FOOD! I love all different types of cuisine.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Watch football with my husband and walk my uber cute dogs Duke and Georgie.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

Next up is Modesty’s book, CHARMED BY THE WILEY LASS

A PRINCESS IN PLAID by Amy Jarecki

MacGalloways #5

A Princess In Plaid

Lady Grace MacGalloway is the most accomplished of her sisters. She attended the prestigious Northbourne Seminary for Young Ladies which elated her English mother, the Dowager Duchess of Dunscaby. Grace sings beautifully, plays the pianoforte, her embroidery is flawless, and she speaks four languages. Whenever she enters a room, all heads turn her way, which is exactly why the most eligible bachelor in all of Christendom, Prince Isidor, chose her as his bride. From birth, Grace knew she was destined to become a princess. And at last her dreams were coming true.

Except the expectations of young ladies are often nothing but hopeful fantasies. Even highborn women like Her Ladyship, born into powerful families often discover their arranged marriages do not measure up to their expectations. When Grace’s world shatters, she is mortified, never wanting to show her face in public again, never wanting to look into the eyes of a man again. But when she retreats to her family’s hunting lodge in the Highlands of Scotland and awakes from a nasty fall, it’s the eyes of a social outcast that make her wonder if she’s spent her life following the wrong dream.
