Katie Garner | Struggling widow faces uncertainty
Author Guest / January 29, 2025

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE FAMILY INSIDE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Struggling widow Iris is facing homelessness when she’s offered the chance to move with her rebellious daughter into her new partner’s family mansion—but is there a more sinister reason behind his offer? 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I’ve always loved upstate New York and surrounding areas. It’s so beautiful every season and there’s always a reason to visit. Also, I currently live near the Delaware river and there are a lot of old mansions nestled right on the cliff’s edge overlooking the river. I always thought it would be amazing to live in one of those homes. Until that day comes, I can write about it! 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes! I love Iris. She is kind and always tries her best. Iris would do anything for her daughter and the people she loves. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Kind, protective, thoughtful. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? To try not to be too hard on myself. Like many, I suffer from imposter…

Emma Theriault | A reluctant earl discovers a mysterious woman with amnesia on his land
Author Guest / January 29, 2025

1–What is the title of your latest release? A LADY WOULD KNOW BETTER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? An unexpected romance unfolds when a stern, reluctant earl discovers a mysterious woman with amnesia on his land and agrees to let her recuperate in his manor, which is about to play host to a party no one asked for. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Whether I am writing romance or fantasy. I need a real historical analogue to ground myself in. For this series, I knew I wanted to focus on the budding women’s suffrage movement. In 1877, England is on the cusp of change. Various reform bills concerning women’s rights have passed, committees and pressure groups are campaigning for change, and Parliament is at last taking notice. My characters would have figures like John Stuart Mill, Lydia Becker, Barbara Bodichon and Millicent Fawcett to inspire them. The right to vote is still a long way off, but maybe one day I’ll get to write a new series about their granddaughters gaining suffrage at last. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I have two main characters. Jane…

Kimberli A. Bindschatel | Conversations in Character with Poppy McVie
Author Guest / January 29, 2025

Book Title: OPERATION BAYOU JUSTICE Character Name: Poppy McVie How would you describe your family or your childhood? It was, well, different. My mother was a surgeon in the Navy, and my dad was a wildlife photographer, so we moved around a lot. In the Philippines, I learned to street fight when I was eight. Mostly, though, I learned to live out of a backpack and appreciate the wilderness. Oh, and I put myself through college working as a sommelier. Yeah, I’m kinda into wine. What was your greatest talent? Getting in trouble, if that’s a talent. No wait, maybe getting myself out of a pickle. Yeah, that’s happened a lot. I’m kind of a jump-feet-first-figure-it-out as I go kind of gal. But seriously, I tend to see things others don’t. Like, I can read people, their vibe, you know. Significant other? I have this on again off again thing with my partner, Dalton, another agent on the force. He’s so…aggravating. And sexy.  And aggravating. He’s serious about our relationship and I’m…do we have to talk about this right now? Biggest challenge in relationships? I do this thing where I open my mouth and stuff comes out, and then I…

Susan Moore | A gripping psychological thriller
Author Guest / January 28, 2025

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE WIDOW’S WEB 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? When tech mogul Brad Jones is found drowned off the Marin coast, his death is quickly ruled a suicide. But his wife, Dr. Anna Jones, a renowned cyber-psychologist, isn’t convinced. Driven by grief and suspicion, Anna begins to dig into Brad’s past, uncovering secrets that lead her deep into the world of Silicon Valley’s elite.  “The Widow’s Web” is a gripping psychological thriller, revealing the unsettling reality that sometimes our enemies are those we believed we could trust. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Choosing the setting for my book was deeply influenced by my personal experiences. Having lived and worked in technology in Northern California for many years, I wanted to explore its unique culture in a fictional way. The dynamic world of Silicon Valley, with its cutting-edge innovations and high-stakes competition, gave me a compelling stage for the narrative. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes! I’d love to hang out with Dr. Anna Jones. She’s smart, loyal and likes her coffee and wine. We’d have fun. 5–What are…

Elizabeth Rose | Author-Reader Match: LADYBIRD
Author Guest / January 28, 2025

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Elizabeth Rose! Writes: I am the author of 116 books and counting! I write several genres of romance, including medieval, paranormal, fantasy, western, and small town contemporary. I love to feature strong heroines who have a mind of their own, can do anything a man can do (and more) including wielding a sword. I also love writing alpha heroes who are a little rough around the edges and benefit from being paired up with a strong woman. Oh, and yeah, I like my heroes to have a tortured past. I love writing dialogue and throwing in nasty villains and lots of action and big plots. One last thing, I love writing big families and then writing next generation romances, telling you the stories of those characters’ children once they are grown as well. About: I live in the suburbs of Chicago although I’m not a city girl and really more of a country girl at heart. Some of my hobbies are tending to my…

Heather McBreen | Two stranded wedding guests have to find their way together
Author Guest / January 28, 2025

1–What is the title of your latest release? WEDDING DASHERS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? After a case of mistaken identity and almost one-night stand, two stranded wedding guests have to find their way to their final destination together 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I spent a year living in the UK while in grad school and spent a lot of time traveling around, so I knew I could do a travel themed romcom set in the UK justice   4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? For sure! Ada seems like a fun gal if I do say so myself. We have the same sense of humor AND the same taste in men, so I’m sure we’d have fun talking about book boyfriends and where we want to travel next. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Spunky, reliable, caring 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I think the most valuable lesson I learned while writing this book was that I can write a book, and because I did it once, I can do it again. That to me was a massively important takeaway. …

Playlist | SPIRAL by Bal Khabra
Author Guest / January 28, 2025

Author Bal Khabra has decided to share a list of some songs that go with her new book SPIRAL. Fallen Star by The Neighborhood If this book were a TV show, this would be the title song. It perfectly captures the yearning, the push and pull, and everything tied to the fake-dating dynamic. Elias, the main character, often describes Sage, the female lead, as a star. She’s a ballerina striving to reach the spotlight, but in many ways, she’s a fallen star. Elias wants to help her, yet he’s also trying to keep her at arm’s length. My favorite lyrics: Further apart, the closer that we areI’ll keep you far away, from me like a starHard not to fall for you, I gave you all my heartFurther apart, the closer, the closer, the closer that we are Willow by Taylor Swift This captures Sage Beaumont perfectly. She’s fake-dating Elias, but deep down, she wants to follow him wherever he goes and have him take her hand. She falls for him first, always striving to get him to open up and let her in. My favorite lyrics: Wherever you strayI followI’m begging for you to take my handWreck my plansThat’s my…

Jamie L. Adams | My favorite mystery tropes and classic elements
Author Guest / January 27, 2025

by Jamie L. Adams Hi, my name is Jamie Adams, and I love writing (and reading!) mystery novels. There is just something so captivating about the intricate puzzles, the chase for clues, and the shocking twists that keep readers guessing until the very end. Whether it’s unraveling a cold case, solving a cozy whodunit, or diving into a fast-paced thriller, mysteries have always held a special place in my heart. There’s something uniquely rewarding about that “a-ha” moment when all the pieces of the story finally click together. For this first post, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite mystery tropes and elements that make the genre so irresistible to me: The amateur sleuth. There’s something undeniably charming about an ordinary person thrust into extraordinary circumstances. Maybe it’s a baker who stumbles across a body in her small-town shop, or a librarian who finds an old diary that unravels a decades-old crime. These amateur sleuths bring creativity and heart to their investigations, making the journey as entertaining as the solution. Small towns with big secrets. I adore the contrast of idyllic settings hiding dark truths. A sleepy coastal town, a picturesque mountain village, or a…

Cynthia Eden | A year in books
Author Guest / January 27, 2025

I can’t believe that the first month of 2025 is already coming to an end. Did it pass quickly for you? Slowly?  We were just snowed in where I live—and, yes, that’s a crazy thing for me to write because I live along the Gulf Coast of Alabama. But we received almost nine inches of snow, and for several days, everyone was told to stay home and off the roads. So, during my snowmageddon, I started thinking about…the year in books.  Or rather, how each month in 2025, I would like to pick a different book trope or genre to read.  For January, my trope is/was…psychic romance. And the author I often turn to in order to get a great psychic romance? Jayne Ann Krentz. (She never disappoints me!) Her new psychic romantic suspense, SHATTERING DAWN, released on 1/7/25. A new book for a new year. Psychic shenanigans, an alpha hero, and hot romance—a perfect way for me to start my 2025 reading adventure. In February, my reading challenge is going to focus on reunited lovers (figured that would be fitting for Valentine’s Day!). So if you have any book suggestions that fit that theme, please tell me all about…

Taylor Hutton | A world where passion and danger collide
Author Guest / January 27, 2025

1–What is the title of your latest release? STRIKE AND BURN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In a world where passion and danger collide, Honor Stone fights to reclaim her life after her sister’s murder pulls her into the orbit of Strike Madden, a dangerously seductive billionaire willing to risk everything to protect her—even if it means facing the darkness within them both. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? We both went to college in Pennsylvania and so setting it the fictional town of Shelton PA felt familiar to us both. It’s a little Easter egg. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Honor is a great hang, and we’d be thrilled to grab drinks with her anytime she’s in Los Angeles. We’d even come to Shelton. We’d also love to shop her store Grace & Honor. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Optimistic, tenacious, artistic 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Collaborative writing invents its own hybrid style. When we re-read our own work, it always feels so surprising because Taylor Hutton really does have her own voice. We can never tell between…
