1–What is the title of your latest release? THE ISLAND WITCH 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In 1880s Ceylon, Amara, the daughter of the local demon priest is caught in the cross currents of her traditional beliefs and the new colonial ideas that have been brought into her coastal town, while being bullied and called a “witch” herself. When a series of attacks starts plaguing the men in her village, she must figure out who is behind them before her father is accused of these crimes. However, she’s been having dreams which eerily predict these attacks, and can’t shake the feeling that all this is tied into to when she woke up, dazed, and confused, to the sound of her mother’s cries that no one can find out what happened. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I always knew that this had to be a historical novel, given the nature of the story I was trying to tell. I was initially torn between setting the story in Kandy – Sri Lanka’s hilly central capital – or the coastal town of Matara. Matara eventually won because it has a lot of historic…
What is the title of your latest release? HOW NOT TO HATE A DUKE What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? An engaging and playful romance about what happens when a high-minded heiress clashes with the dastardly duke next door. How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The setting of the book is a house party in the English Countryside, and I decided to set it in the beautiful Peak District, where the partygoers could do some hunting, fishing, lawn games, and—something that doesn’t always happen at house parties—cave exploring! Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Yes. She’s smart, funny, ahead of her time, and she admits to her mistakes. What are three words that describe your hero? Handsome, Powerful, and Confident What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned everything about the cave called The Devil’s Arse! I read books, watched videos, and even visited the cave and took a tour deep into it last summer. Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I edit lightly as I draft, but I do the majority of…
Excerpt: “You’re late,” she stated, folding her arms across her chest. “I know, I’m sorry.” He drew closer in awe of her unyielding stare. Men twice his age weren’t half as fierce. Even with the annoyance in her eyes, she looked more radiant than the previous day. She was wearing a lacy white dress with high heels and had done her hair straight with extra makeup to emphasize her beautiful eyes. “Can you forgive me?” he asked. She scrutinized him before asking suspiciously, “Depends. Why were you late?” “He just delivered a baby on the side of the road,” Eli said flatly. Charly blinked in surprise at him. “You delivered a baby?” Gunner encouraged her further, nudging her arm with his. “Don’t be too hard on him, Charly. He did good tonight.” Jaxon couldn’t break away from her gaze as her entire demeanor shifted from puzzlement to something else entirely. “How about we drop this topic and move on to that drink you promised me tonight?” he asked her. His only goal tonight was getting her to soften toward him and to show her what this bar meant to everyone in town. His dream, his bar, was burning to…

Book Title: A SMOKING BUN Character Name: Jules Capshaw How would you describe your family or your childhood? Delectably eclectic. Growing up in the Shakespearean hamlet of Ashland, Oregon, made for a creative and adventurous childhood, especially since my parents owned a family bakeshop, Torte. After school, I would walk to the bakeshop and spend the afternoon watching my dad craft a magnificent eight-layer mocha, almond, and apricot cake. My mom listened like a pastry therapist as customers would spill out their problems while sipping a handcrafted latte. I learned so much in those formative years, from how to crack an egg perfectly to the deep connections that occur around food. What was your greatest talent? Baking with love. Significant other? My husband Carlos. We met when we were both working on a boutique cruise ship where he was the head chef, and I was responsible for the pastry kitchen. It was an incredible experience to sail across azure waters and stop at romantic ports of call. Food is our love language and our constant point of connection. We’re both happiest in the kitchen, sharing a glass of wine and whipping up a simple, yet elegant dish…
1–What is the title of your latest release? LOVE AND HOT CHICKEN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Queer PhD student PJ Spoon returns to her Tennessee hometown after the death of her father and winds up working at a hot chicken shack, competing in a beauty pageant, and falling for her adorable singer-songwriter coworker. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I knew I wanted it to be in Tennessee (my home state) but I wanted a slightly more rural setting than my hometown (Nashville). I was inspired by the small towns in Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Café and Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Of course! We both enjoy corn dogs, trail rides, books, and our mammas. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Plucky, irreverent, earnest. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned that I’m not one of those authors who starts with a 100,000 word draft and cuts it down. For me, every word is precious. In other words, this book started as a scrawny skeleton and I had to work to put…
1–What is the title of your latest release? THE HIDDEN LIFE OF CECILY LARSON 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? THE HIDDEN LIFE OF CECILY LARSON tells the story of Cecily, a small town doctor’s wife who, in 2015, finds out through an at-home DNA test that the baby she gave birth to in 1936 at age fifteen – a baby she’d been told had died at birth – is still alive, bringing to light a tragic love story she’d kept hidden for decades and throwing into question everything about the family she’d raised and claimed as “her own” for nearly 70 years. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I started with the question of whether it would be possible to keep a significant secret over the course of a long lifetime in a small town, and I knew right away that I wanted my small town to be in northern Minnesota, where I was born and which still feels to me like home. Other parts of the book take place on the coast of North Carolina, both because I’ve loved visiting there and because I wanted to weave some historical events…
1–What is the title of your latest release? THE CHAOS AGENT 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? When several leaders in the field of artificial intelligence are assassinated around the globe, The Gray Man learns of a new super weapon that is soon to be deployed by an unknown power. He and former Russian intelligence officer Zoya Zakharova work with the CIA as they go from Central America, to Mexico, and finally to Cuba to uncover the origins of the weapon and stop its release into the world. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I wanted a location where the hero could be hiding out at the beginning of the story, so I chose Guatemala, a country that’s off the beaten path, but a place I know well. And I also wanted to find a location the villain could use that would give him some freedom and autonomy to do what he wanted, so I picked the communist nation of Cuba. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I would. He’d probably get bored of me pretty quickly, though. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Relentless, noble,…
