Naima Simone | Conversations in Character with Kade Gibson
Author Guest / October 13, 2023

Book Title: PLEASE DON’T GO, GIRL –  Book 3 Love on the Radio series Character Name: Kade Gibson   How would you describe your family or your childhood? Idyllic. You didn’t think your boy knew that word much less how to spell it, did you? Yeah, don’t let the tattoos and my inner hoe fool you. I was blessed to grow up with two parents who adored each other—still do—and a brother and sister that I loved. Still love them, too, even though my brother… That’s complicated now but we were all close growing up in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. It was a good life.   What was your greatest talent? Music. I love listening to it, writing it, playing it. And by ear. I’m good on several instruments but drums are my first love.   Significant other? Stop playing with me.   Biggest challenge in relationships? Me. I don’t want any part of one. I tried that, didn’t like the ending. Wouldn’t recommend.   Where do you live? Right now? Get this. In this little town that looks like it belongs on one of those postcards you send to your parents when you don’t want them to know what…

Angela Jackson-Brown | Conversations in Character with Rose Perkins Bourdon
Author Guest / October 13, 2023

Book Title: HOMEWARD Character Name: Rose Perkins Bourdon   How would you describe your family or your childhood? I come from a large, loving family. I have two sisters, and three older brothers, two of which are twins. My family is so supportive. Even when I came back home to live after making a really bad life decision, they embraced me and encouraged me to become my best self. I have my parents, Cedric and Opal Perkins, to thank for that. Our home was always filled with unconditional love, and the mindset that there was no sin too big or too small to be forgiven.   What was your greatest talent? I have a great memory. I struggled in school except for when we had to memorize things. Because of my ability to memorize, I was able to pass the Voter Registration test my people were forced to take in order to be eligible to vote. Had I not had such a great memory, I don’t know if I would have ever passed that awful test.   Significant other? The love of my life was my husband, Jasper. He loved me even when I didn’t deserve it. Unfortunately, he passed…

Vanessa Lillie | A Cherokee Archeologist Returns Home to Investigate Crimes
Author Guest / October 13, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? BLOOD SISTERS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Blood Sisters is about a Cherokee archeologist who has left her rural Oklahoma hometown but is called back when a woman’s remains are found near a crime scene she barely escaped as a girl, and soon after, her sister goes missing. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Blood Sisters is set in Miami, Oklahoma, in the Northeast corner of the state, which is where I grew up and my parents still live. My main character returns to her hometown of Picher, Oklahoma, which is now a ghost town that once belonged to the Quapaw tribe. The story is set in 2008, but the issues impacting the story go all the way to when minerals were discovered there in 1913. The land and mineral rights were stolen by the government and big mining companies from tribal members. For thirty years, billions were made, in fact half the lead and zinc used in World War I came from those mines.  Once the industry went bust, the Quapaw tribe and people who’d moved to Picher were stuck in what…

Benedict Jacka | Modern-day Progression Fantasy Where Magic is For Sale But Really Expensive
Author Guest / October 12, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? AN INHERITANCE OF MAGIC 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Modern-day progression fantasy where magic is for sale but really expensive, featuring a working-class boy and his cat. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I set it in the East End of London because I live there! 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Sure!  He’s polite, friendly, and has killed at least 20-30 fewer people than the average fantasy protagonist. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Intelligent, organized, adaptive. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? The cash value of a main battle tank in the US is maybe $30 million, and a jet fighter maybe $100 million, but similar hardware from Russia or China costs only a fraction of that, and European prices are somewhere in between.  If you’re wondering why I had to look that up, it was to answer the question “how much would a Western military be willing to pay for a squad of invisible special forces soldiers?”, which is relevant when Light essentia in your setting can create items that work as…

Kate Golden | A Young Woman Offers Herself Up to a Wicked King to Save Her Family
Author Guest / October 12, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? A DAWN OF ONYX 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A Dawn of Onyx follows a young woman from a small, sheltered town who offers herself up to a wicked king to save her family, and is locked in his gothic keep to serve as his castle healer. While imprisoned, she makes an unsuspecting ally in a fellow prisoner, but not everything about the stranger is exactly as it seems… 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I love magical lands with unique, varying kingdoms i.e., the different courts in ACOTAR or the different nations in Avatar the last Airbender. I’ve also always loved gemstones (always my favorite exhibit in the Natural History Museum) so the idea was born from blending those two interests. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? 100%. Arwen would be the best, most thoughtful friend. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Optimistic, Altruistic, & Warm. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I will always spell barely as barley. Always. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I…

James J. Butcher | An Old Foe is Apparently Back From the Dead
Author Guest / October 12, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? LONG PAST DUES 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? An old foe is apparently back from the dead, trying to complete the ritual that had been stopped once before—though something is different this time. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? In my opinion, urban fantasy series are strongest when centralized around a particular and notable location. Since the Unorthodox Chronicles is a story largely about witches, I chose Boston. It is a city with a rich history and is near Salem, a place often associated with witchcraft. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? In short intervals, probably. Perhaps he would be better company when he’s a bit more mature. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Underdog. Clever. Uncertain. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? When in doubt, just keep trudging to the ending. Don’t double-back until you’ve got the last chapter written. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I edit as I draft, but often I do so to procrastinate writing a difficult scene or when figuring out how…

Kate Pearsall | Sister with Unique Abilities Investigate Disappearances
Author Guest / October 12, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? BITTERSWEET IN THE HOLLOW 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Bittersweet in the Hollow is the story of Linden, a girl who can taste the emotions of others and lives in a rural Appalachian town under the shadow of the forest where she disappeared the previous summer. She has no memory of what happened, but when another girl goes missing exactly one year later Linden enlists the help of her sisters, each with their own unique ability, to find out who or what is responsible. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The setting in Bittersweet in the Hollow is so important because the backbone of the story is rooted in Appalachian folklore and folk magic traditions. I also wanted the town of Caball Hollow to feel like a true character, so I loosely based it on the small town where my mother grew up, and much of our family still lives, in West Virginia. As it’s a place I know well, I was able to include lots of details that make it come alive. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?…

Author Guest / October 11, 2023

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Caroline George!   Writes: Hi there! I write a wide range of young adult novels, everything from historical romance to murder mystery. To have a person’s attention for however many hours is something I don’t take for granted. I strive to offer wisdom, encouragement, and compassion through my books so that people feel seen and understood. My latest YA novel CURSES AND OTHER BURIED THINGS takes place in the Okefenokee Swamp of South Georgia and focuses on Susana Prather, a teenage girl with a curse spanning generations. The story is wholly based off my own family’s Southern folklore.   About: Although born and raised in Georgia, I now live in a rural community in Central Wyoming, where I work for a ranch. When I’m not writing or filming cowboys, I can be found singing at my local haunt or hiking…

But her best friend knows Laurel secretly longs for love, and she sets her up on a blind date that rocks Laurel’s safe little world. Her first impression of Charlie is that he’s just another ladies’ man, which is so not what she needs. But life keeps throwing them together, and even though Laurel tries to resist, there’s some serious chemistry brewing, and she begins to question her initial reaction. Could Charlie actually be the stable, anchoring kind of guy she secretly wants but has never let herself have?
