CALLING THE SHOTS is Book 3 in the Out on the Ice Series. It’s a sweet second chance-ish romance between two rival women’s hockey coaches: Regan Lane, an outspoken former superstar player who loves the spotlight, and Tierney McGovern, an ice queen single mom determined to protect her daughter and her heart. As their teams face each other game after game, it doesn’t take long for them to realize their hockey rivalry isn’t the only thing heating up. C is for Coaches. Tierney and Regan are rival head coaches in a women’s professional hockey league. A is for Airplanes and Airports. Both women spend a lot of time traveling with their teams and to see each other. L is for Love of all kinds: parent and child, siblings, and of course, the love between Regan and Tierney. L is for Lady Libertys. Tierney is the head coach of the New York Lady Libertys. I is for Ice. Regan is the head coach of the Boston Ice. N is for New York. Most of the story takes place in NYC, especially Brooklyn. G is for Girlfriends. Friends and former teammates from the previous books in the Out on the Ice…
Clueless is a masterpiece Can you believe it’s been over 20 years since Clueless gave us Emma as privileged ’90s Beverly Hills teens? Cher loves plaid, had computer software to design her outfits and most unbelievable of all, had Paul Rudd as a stepbrother that she never noticed was a “total Baldwin” 1995 was a Banner year for adaptations Am I worth my salt if I don’t mention the 1995 Pride and Prejudice? Or the lesser-known title, the one where Colin Firth goes for a swim. This is a mostly faithful adaptation and what I love about it honestly is that it dares to be so long. The watcher can absolutely luxuriate in Austen for hours. When the opening credits come on and that lettering swirls across that white silk, you know you’re going to be safe, and whatever disaster happened at work or at home can wait. Bride and Prejudice Did you know Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai took a turn at Lizzy as well? It’s not all giddy show-stopping production numbers, silk swirls, lively song – though I wouldn’t be mad if it were. It’s a gorgeous movie with songs I still sing to this day. My…
It has been such a thrill to see the first two books in my K-9 Alaska series return as part of duo books (reprints with two books bundled together). First, K-9 Defense returned as part of Valiant Tracker (a duo with Elle James’s Six Minutes to Midnight), then Alaska Mountain Rescue returned as part of Tracking a Fugitive (with Nicole Helm’s Hunting a Killer). But now, it may be an even bigger thrill to see two of my own books bundled together! In December, the third and fourth K-9 Alaska series books, K-9 Cold Case and K-9 Hideout, will return as K-9: Tracking the Target. And I can’t wait to see heroes Jax Diallo and Tate Emory step back into the spotlight! In some ways, Jax and Tate are very different types of heroes and I love that they’re sharing a duo book. Jax, an FBI Victim Specialist, is a healer. His background is in psychology, not law enforcement, and he doesn’t carry a weapon or have the power to make arrests. He’s open and giving and a big contrast to the more secretive police officer Tate Emory, whose background is shrouded in mystery, even from the officers he works…
1–What is the title of your latest release? EXPOSED. Book 1 in the Circle of the Red Lily romantic suspense series. 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A distrustful Hollywood photographer and cop’s reluctant partnership threatens to expose the truth about a decades-old murder and the secret society that will do anything to stop them. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The question I asked myself at the beginning of the story was what pictures could my heroine come across that would put her in mortal danger? I knew the pictures would be old, from maybe the 40s or 50s, and for me, that era of Hollywood has always been fascinating. From then, I knew there was only one place this story could happen: Hollywood. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely! She’s (almost) filterless which also makes her borderline hysterical in the humor department. Honest (perhaps too honest?), snappy, and quick-witted. That doesn’t mean she’s without fault, though. She also acts before she thinks things through, but she’s also a very loyal friend who will do anything to protect the people she cares about. 5–What are three…
1–What is the title of your latest release? A GHOST OF CARIBOU 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In the remote mountains of Washington state, wildlife biologist Alex Carter encounters an unsolved murder and a town in turmoil while in search of a mountain caribou, a majestic, all-but-vanished animal. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I wanted to spin a suspenseful tale around the plight of mountain caribou, which used to live in the northeast corner of Washington state before they were driven to extinction there. The last two surviving animals, both females, were taken by Canada into British Columbia in 2019 because the American herd in Washington was virtually extinct. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. Alex Carter and I have a lot in common. We’re both wildlife researchers and are passionate about conservation. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Compassionate, resourceful, determined. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Mountain caribou are endangered due to a variety of factors, including the clearcutting of old-growth forests, habitat fragmentation, climate change, and more. I really dove into the process of getting a species listed…

Worried she will get her companions killed because of her shortcomings, she’s ready to get out of the country. Sasha Sokolov, on the other hand, is still at war with himself. The clairvoyant committed many foul deeds to…
1–What is the title of your latest release? ALL IS FAIR 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Jan Orlinsky, a fighter pilot in training and pianist at large, watches as his home country, Poland, is devastated by the German blitzkrieg in 1939. Anxious to do his part in The Great War, Jan makes his way to England where, during a particularly heavy day of combat, he crashes into the English Channel and is captured by the Germans. Driven by his desire to return to his first love, newspaper reporter Sophie Gordon, Jan escapes from his captors and makes his way back to England via Spain, where he is again captured and imprisoned, this time for the duration of the war. Once free of bondage, Jan learns he has been betrayed in ways that will forever change his life. Feeling lost he finds his way to Paris to start life anew and finds his future is not at all like he envisioned. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The location was determined by historic events. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Of course, I always create main characters who…
Jennifer Vido: How did your real-life experiences inspire your new release, THE WIDOW? Kaira Rouda: My husband, who had never run for political office before, was elected to congress in 2018 when he upset a 30-year incumbent. The two years we spent serving the country and learning about Washington, DC, inspired the story for The Widow. I also learned about the tradition of The Widow’s Mandate, where spouses step in and fill out the remainder of their husband’s term if they die in office. Statistically speaking, for women who aspire to serve in congress, the best husband has been a dead husband. That’s a great premise for a suspense writer. Jen: What impact do Jody and Martin Asher have on the political landscape in DC? Kaira: They are senior members of the house, although Martin’s power has been slipping of late. Jody is still the queen of the spouses, and she knows it. She is very concerned that Martin’s behavior is going to ruin everything. Jen: What happens with Martin that might threaten the couple’s future in politics? Kaira: Well, Martin is most likely having an affair with a young staffer. Jody doesn’t care about the affair, per…
1–What is the title of your latest release? REINCEPTION 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A corporation’s popular brain-modification technology is eradicating socially unacceptable behavior in 2126 New York City. When a college student and a government-labeled terrorist discover the truth of what’s happening inside people’s heads, they fight to preserve their free will and the future. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? In setting my book 100 years in the future, I thought carefully about what would change and what might remain the same. It was central to my story that my main character, Leandrea, be in college. I went to Barnard College/Columbia University in New York City. I liked the idea that Columbia University would endure, and I put Leandrea into places that I inhabited and explored in college and imagined what they might be like, and whether they would even exist, in 2126. In the same way that civilizations have always exploited existing infrastructures, I built future NYC on top of existing NYC. A complex city like New York is ripe for speculative futures. One imagines how things like climate change will impact a city that depends so heavily…
Excerpt from A DEAL WITH DARKNESS, Alexis L. Menard, City Owl Press © 2022 , Used by permission. Prologue My internal clock ticked away precious seconds. I didn’t usually give my target this much of a head start, but tonight I was feeling generous. I took a deep breath, scenting the trail of my prey in the darkness cloaking the forest. The Grimm Wood usually smelled like fresh earth and pine, but tonight the hint of copper masked the natural aroma. Nothing stirred in the trees—no sound carried on the breeze blowing east. The wind was my ally, revealing the panicked paces of the man fleeing from my attack. I could have finished him off before he escaped, but the truth was I let him go. The reaping was more gratifying when I had to work for it, more delicious when it was earned. This lowlife was a fighter, a despicable coward, and a runner. And I really liked it when they ran. I reached down next to his abandoned cot still unrolled by the fire, speckled with blood from the warning slice I made down his forearm. Snatching a half-empty bottle by the neck, I took a…
