Book Title: MRS. CHRISTIE AT THE MYSTERY GUILD LIBRARY Character Name: Tory Van Dyne How would you describe your family or your childhood?Well, let’s just say my family is unconventional. In fact, until that rainy late-September evening when a woman claiming to be the Queen of Crime first materialized in the Mystery Guild Library’s Agatha Christie Room, I’d been working very hard at living a life shielded from the eccentricities of my Old New York (which is code for “old money) family, including a grandfather given to penning naughty limericks and a great-aunt who has spells when she imagines herself to be a fish; my socialite/actor cousin Nicola, popularly known as one of the three Belles of Broadway and prone to dancing half-naked in public fountains; and my own particular brand of crazy (about which, I’d always felt, the least said the better). I lived instead a quiet life. A safe, sane, sensible life. Until that rainy late-September evening… What is your greatest talent?By inclination and necessity, I am a very good book conservator. You see, after my father ran through his own much-diminished trust fund, he went completely off the rails, siphoning the capital from mine into an infamous…

Book Title: A SCHEMING IN PARLIAMENTCharacter Name: Sir Bertrand Thorndike How would you describe your family or your childhood?I had a wonderful childhood. My father, the Earl of Thorndike, owned a sprawling estate near Worcester, and I had free run of the place. My elder brother, Tristan, is now the earl and has the property. We were educated by the local vicar and the sent away to school. I had all the advantages a young boy could wish. What was your greatest talent?Agility and skill at sports, including riding, archery, shooting, darts. I’m told I’m also fairly skilled in social situations. Personally, I am rather proud of my acting skills, as I have for several years, passed myself off as an idle dilettante who has an affection for drink. In truth, I don’t drink much, but it’s a useful ability in my line of work. People tend to let their guard down around someone they think is a lightweight. Significant other?Hmm…I have been quite adept at evading such relationships. Though there is one woman who has caught my eye lately. Biggest challenge in relationships?I don’t like things to be untidy, and many relationships are, well, messy is the best word…
Welcome to my little hamlet of Ashland, Oregon. I’m Juliet Montague Capshaw, but please call me Jules. I cannot wait to give you a taste of my charming hometown. Sure, I might be biased, but I happen to believe there’s no better place to enjoy a cozy weekend taking in a Shakespeare show underneath the stars at the Elizabethan theater, strolling the plaza with one of our Torte signature lattes and a cardamom bun in hand, or meandering through Lithia Park to admire the vast Siskiyou forest that tucks in our sweet village in a vibrant, green hug. Ashland is home to a bevy of creatives—artists, playwrights, actors, musicians, and I might even throw bakers in the mix. Pastry has always been my muse, and my team at our family bakeshop, Torte, is nothing short of culinary geniuses. Not only do the delectable three-tiered cakes in our display cases taste divine, but they are also truly works of art, featuring dainty hand-spun sugar flowers and intricate buttercream piping designs that could grace any museum. The plaza is constantly bustling with activity. Musicians busk near the bubbling Lithia fountains while street performers dressed in Shakespearean garb recite sonnets and soliloquies. All…

Nothing New (Taylor Swift ft. Phoebe Bridgers)From the start, I knew that if Poe’s story were a Taylor Swift song, it would be this (fun fact: Taylor played an acoustic mash-up of Nothing New and Dear Reader on my Eras stop while I was finishing up this book, and I emailed my agent and editor afterwards and said that it was the perfect mash-up for Poe). In fact, Poe even listens to this song at the start of the book when she’s in the throes of her writer’s block and fearing that no one will “want” her now that she’s no longer a sparkling debut. Friends Don’t (Maddie & Tae)Another song that I knew from the beginning would pair perfectly with this book. I am a sucker for a pining-for-your-best-friend song, and this one is top tier. I love the second verse, and without spoiling too much, there’s a scene in the book that was partly inspired by the lyrics “They don’t almost say, ‘I love you’ / When they’re downtown somewhere, just a little drunk.” As with any good friends-to-lovers trope, I hope that when readers see how Poe and Zwe interact, they’re screaming, “Friends don’t act like that!”…
What is the title of your latest release?WISH YOU WERE HER What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?Neurodivergent Notting Hill! How did you decide where your book was going to take place?Lake Pristine, the fictional small town from my first YA novel was popular with readers and I loved spending time there as a writer. So it felt natural to use it as a continuing location. Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?Omg, absolutely. In a second. She’s much more calm and collected than I am and I think she would be a good influence, haha. I think she’d also have some great gossip. What are three words that describe your protagonist?Compassionate. Talented. Neurodivergent. What’s something you learned while writing this book?I think how strongly I feel about women and girls being forced to become role models just for existing. I don’t like how we’re instantly supposed to be media trained to a degree that removes all humanity. All of the imperfections. Marginalized women and girls don’t automatically have to be role models. They deserve to make mistakes and experience life and love without restraint. They deserve messy fun. And they don’t need to fix everything…

There’s something intriguing about solving mysteries from the great beyond. Just ask Carolyn Hart, E.J. Copperman, and Cleo Coyle, mystery authors who include a “ghostly sleuth” in their long-running series. Carolyn Hart didn’t start the craze, but she’s certainly a master of the game (and a Grand Master of Mystery) with her Bailey Ruth novels. GHOST BLOWS A KISS is the tenth installment in her series about an amusing and vivacious ghostly sleuth. Here’s how it works: Bailey Ruth returns to earth whenever she receives an assignment from Heaven’s Department of Good Intentions. Sometimes Bailey Ruth has no clear direction on what her mission is about, but occasionally she lands right smack in the middle of an emergency .In GHOST BLOWS A KISS, she finds herself in Adelaide, Oklahoma, to rescue a woman drowning in a pool. That’s the jumping off point for the mystery that follows, and as always, there’s a lot at stake. An innocent person will be charged in a murder if Bailey Ruth doesn’t win this one. Emissaries from heaven are supposed to be discreet in assisting the local police. Acting police chief Howie Harris is described as “not the sharpest knife in the drawer,” and…
