Eva Devon | A Duke Devoted to Justice Helps a Dressmaker

August 30, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release?

THE DUKE AND THE DRESSMAKER

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

When a dressmaker borrows money from a notorious money lender to help her little sister, her life is about to fall apart. . . But a duke devoted to justice steps in and just might steel her heart.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I adore the early Regency period and Lily is a character from The Beast and the Bookseller, so I knew the book would take place in London.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Absolutely. Both of them. They are fun, love to laugh, and both very wounded.

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Determined, intelligent, grit.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

The Lock Asylum was a place of voluntary admission! Though the Lock doesn’t play heavily in this book, I thought it was very interesting.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I write the whole thing then go back usually, or in sections.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Chocolate cake all the way!

9–Describe your writing space/office!

Wherever I can! I have three little guys and I have to squeeze my words in. Sometimes even in my car!

10–Who is an author you admire?

Stacy Reid is absolutely brilliant as is Tamara Gill, Scarlett Scott, and Kate Bateman.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Johanna Lindsay’s The Present because I’d never really read a romance before and it set me on my path to becoming a writer and I fell in love with the Mallory family!

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

With this one, I had a fantastic phone call with my editor Elizabeth Pelletier! I was standing in my kitchen, and we had such a fun chat.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Nonfiction! I write so much that I love to read about the real lives of other people! And the people who lived in the era I write.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Pride and Prejudice. Truly.

15–What is your favorite season?

Fall and Spring. I love the transition times!

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Cake! And with my family.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I just read The Lost Apothecary and it was AMAZING. I also really enjoyed the new versions of Tom Jones on PBS!!!

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Mexican

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Listen to inspirational books and walk.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I’m currently at work on The Rake and the Rose which follows characters in The Duke and The Dressmaker. The heroine is a writer and I adore her! Lots of banter in this one!

Thank you so much for having me!

THE DUKE AND THE DRESSMAKER by Eva Devon

Once Upon a Wallflower #2

The Duke and the Dressmaker

A duke becomes unraveled by love in this delightful historical romance from USA Today bestselling author Eva Devon…

Dressmaker Miss Lily Martin knows too well the sordid dealings of London’s corrupt underbelly. She should have known borrowing from one of the city’s most reviled moneylenders was risky. Horribly so. Now the loan has come due—and there’s nothing standing between Miss Lily and her darling sister’s ruin. Until a dashing American with flashing, defiant eyes intervenes…

Ship captain James Blakefield may be the new Duke of Ashbridge, but he’s only in London for six weeks to secure his estate before returning to America, and far from the watchful eye of the ton. He’ll be damned if he’ll attend another society event where eligible ladies fling themselves at his title. But when he discovers Miss Lily’s desperate predicament, James realizes he might have the perfect arrangement.

By assuming the legal guardianship of Lily’s sister, he can keep them both safe and ensure someone cares for the estate. But it means having Lily under the same roof for the next six weeks. No chaperones. No betrothal. As their undeniable attraction charges the very air between them, both propriety and restraint are threatened. But scandal is the least of their concerns when James’s secret threatens to pull everything apart at the seams…

About Eva Devon

Eva Devon

USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR, Eva Devon, was raised on literary fiction, but quite accidentally and thankfully, she was introduced to romance one Christmas by Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory novella, The Present. A romance addict was born. She devoured every single Lindsey novel within a few months and moved on to contemporary and paranormal with gusto. Now, she loves to write her own roguish dukes, alpha males and the heroines who tame them.
