Heather Long | What Happens in Vegas…

March 2, 2013

The catch phrase for Las Vegas is so well known you can find it in most television series or films about the fabled Sin City with its casinos and homage to the vices of mankind. Las Vegas is an adult party town where you can gamble, go to shows, see sparkling showgirls and never see the sun—despite the desert location. In every way, it was perfect location for a paranormal romance.  When I wrote SOULGIRLS I knew the Vegas destination was ideal for the Arcana Royale.

My First Trip to Las Vegas

This may make you laugh, but the very first time I “went” to Las Vegas, I went via Charlie’s Angels’ episode Angels in Vegas. It had my three favorite Angels: Sabrina, Kelly, and Kris working together, fabulous outfits and danger. Yes, it was 1978 and I fell in love with the city.

After that came the series Vegas with Robert Urich. He was so hawt, dangerous, and great to know. Every show that took a trip to Vegas had me glued to the screen. When I was nineteen, I got to go to Las Vegas for the first time and it was everything I thought it would be.

Where else can you go and see drive thru marriage chapels? Elvis impersonators by the thousands? Stage shows? Flashing lights? Black jack? People riding high on life and more who crush their own dreams? It is the dichotomy that lives side by side in this town that attracts me so much!

Best Las Vegas Movies

When I sat down to write Soulgirls, I prepped myself with a Las Vegas movie marathon, devouring in rapid succession the good and the bad in sinful assortment, including:

· Viva Las Vegas

· Ocean’s Eleven

· Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

· Rush Hour 2

· Showgirls

· Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

· Indecent Proposal

· Con Air

· The Stand

· Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man

What is your favorite Las Vegas movie or television show?

Las Vegas, baby at the casino of all Casinos — the Arcana Royale.

Anything can happen here and anything goes, but don’t piss off the Overseers or you may find yourself serving up your soul to the showgirls.

Discover tales of forbidden romance, sexy heroes and dark mysteries.

Fifty years ago, Jeannie Williams made her way to Las Vegas seeking fame and fortune. Instead, she lost her soul and wound up performing nightly shows at the Arcana Royale. Every day, she straps on her feathers, her glitter, her stilettos, and she dances. Every day, it’s the same.

Until the day he walks in.

For six centuries, Malcolm Reynolds has been the go-to guy for anything his family needs: warrior, diplomat, wrangler, researcher, and now an attorney. He enters the Arcana Royale Casino, intent on negotiating the release of his cousin’s bad debt, but one look at the golden-skinned showgirl ignites a fire of need that he’s never experienced. When the fantasy come true sits at his table, words he never expected to hear come out of her lush mouth: “I need your help.”

Now he’s in for the toughest battle of his life, because the Overseers own both his cousin’s debt and her soul. And he’s not planning on leaving the Royale without either one.

This book has been previously published and has been revised and expanded from its original release.
