1–What is the title of your latest release?
A BEAUTIFUL KNIGHT the second book in the Cursed Kingdom series.
2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Medieval Knight Gavin Campbell has been trapped in another realm for three hundred years. Although he is desperate to escape, he accepts that breaking his curse is an impossible task. Thankfully, Sabrina Lockhart, a headstrong modern woman, is determined to find a way to free him—and she might just hold the key to his release.
3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I prefer to write stories set in Scotland. While researching castles that are used as homes, I discovered Dunimarle, Castle near a small village called Culross that is not too far from Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a perfect setting for my story.
4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I adore the female protagonist, Sabrina. She is driven and works as a fashion photographer. I would love to hang out with her while she works.
5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?
She is Independent, Tenacious, Headstrong
6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned a lot of about fashion photography and also about Clan Campbell since that’s the hero’s clan. Oh and that I have a hard time writing too many serious scenes. I have to break it up with some comedy.
7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
Both. While writing my first draft, or any draft for that matter, I sometimes pause and change some wording. But for the most part I wait until I’m done with the entire book to start true editing.
8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
At the moment pistachio ice cream! I’ve been trying different brands to find the best one. It’s fun. Right now, Haagen Daz is winning.
9–Describe your writing space/office!
Very pink! I have a white desk with a pink desk pad, pink wrist rest and pink desk accessories. On my desk, to the left, I have a planner on a stand and flat on the desk are another planner and a to do list notebook. There are two bookshelves, a tall pink one that holds writing reference books and a long one that houses my print books. I am considering adding plants this spring. I think my office could use some greenery.
10–Who is an author you admire?
Too many to name, but the first one that comes to mind is Darynda Jones. She writes paranormal. Not only are her books very good, but she has an amazing way of connecting to her readers. Her readership is loyal and excited about her writing. I strive to be like her!
11–Is there a book that changed your life?
There are two books that have affected me to the point that I changed something about myself. First, The Shack by William P Young, the second is You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero.
12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
When I sold my first book, one that is no longer in print, it was an incredible moment. I couldn’t stop smiling. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I was in Scotland when that book released and that the protagonist was Scottish.
13–What’s your favorite genre to read?
I read many genres. I especially like mystery thrillers and romantic suspense.
14–What’s your favorite movie?
Hands down, Love, Actually – how they manage to weave nine storylines together is incredible.
15–What is your favorite season?
Fall, no question, I love the relief from hot weather and humidity of the south. The colors of autumn, the fall flavors of pumpkin, spices and hearty soups make it an amazing time of year.
16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
When it’s a milestone, my group of gal pals and I have done cruises. Most years either hubby or one of my friends plans something fun, dinner out or movies. As I get older, I prefer smaller, more intimate celebrations.
17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I recommend the tv show Vera on Britbox. I love the protagonist, Vera, she is feisty. The show is set in northeast England, it seems very remote and cold. I enjoy the story plots, the characters and the cinematography.
18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I’m Mexican, so I love Mexican food. Not the kind you normally get in restaurants, but authentic dishes like pozole, ceviche and mole. When I find a restaurant that serves good Mexican, I keep going back. There are a couple in my hometown.
19–What do you do when you have free time?
In my free time I’m either doing decorative planning, journaling, reading or watching British crime thrillers. Occasionally, I go shopping in smaller gift shops or boutiques.
20–What can readers expect from you next?
I just finished writing the third book in the Cursed Kingdom series titled THE DARKEST KNIGHT. It’s about a medieval knight, Niall MacTavish, who is imprisoned in another realm and is reluctant to allow the heroine to save him. A tug of war ensues between a man who’s given up hope and a woman who will not give up on him. I hope the readers will love it as much as I do!
