1–What is the title of your latest release?

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

In Nazi-occupied France, an American film star takes on the most dangerous role of her life in a gripping novel about loyalty and resistance, inspired by a true story, from the Washington Post and Amazon Charts bestselling author of The Secret Stealers.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It’s inspired by a true story of an American actress living in Paris, so that had to be the location.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

I think I would – she was a real person in history – a complex woman with a fascinating life story. I’d love to get to know her better.

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Strong-willed, confident, brave

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

That the Germans really imprisoned American women in a zoo outside Paris after the U.S. entered the war.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

A little bit of both actually.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Really fantastic gourmet cheese!

9–Describe your writing space/office!

It’s in the corner of the first floor of my 100-year-old house. It has huge windows on 3 out of four sides, so it gets lots of sun which I love, and usually at least one of my cats and/or my dog is hanging out in it with me.

10–Who is an author you admire?

So many! I guess I’d have to say Madeleine L’Engle, she was my favorite author growing up.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

On that note, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle – I can’t explain how much I loved that book growing up, and I still have my original tattered paperback. I saw myself in the main character, and I longed to be able to write a book like that. I still long to be able to write a book like that!

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I had put my first novel, The Saturday Evening Girls Club, on a virtual shelf for a couple of years, after a round of rather painful rejections. When I took it out and re-read it, I realized I still loved the story and decided to try to get it published one last time. So a few months later, when Danielle Marshall of Lake Union Publishing called me and told me they wanted to publish it, I was so excited and shocked I was literally at a loss for words for a few moments. When we got off the phone I burst into happy tears.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I read across all genres, but I have to say I’m a huge fan of really well-done mysteries.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Tough one, again so many! Michael Clayton, Rear Window and Ratatouille are three of my favorites.

15–What is your favorite season?

Summer. I love the beach and live about 20 minutes away from one.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I’m pretty low key about birthdays, probably dinner with my family.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and that book floored me. I understand why it has received so many accolades.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

French

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Hang out with my family, cook, walk, or run outside, read, go to the beach in the good weather.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

Another historical novel, but this time it’s not WWII, stay tuned.
