S.A. Kazlo | A Former Fiancé Found Murdered

March 8, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release?

A WEDDING GONE TO THE DOGS

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Samantha’s best friend/cousin, Candie, is getting married but there is a major hitch. A former fiancé of Candie is found murdered in her home. Sam and her dachshund, Porkchop, jump to make sure Candie walks down the aisle and doesn’t spend her honeymoon in the poky.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Like a lot of cozy authors, I wanted it to be set in a small town so that my main character would have a connection to a lot of the people in the town. Fortunately, where I live in upstate New York I am surrounded by lovely small towns that are perfect for my story’s setting.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Absolutely. She’s independent, feisty, and like me, owns an adorable dachshund.

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

She’s fun loving, loyal and willing to be a bit of a daredevil.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

It certainly is no walk in the park, but writing gives me a natural high that I love.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I try, but don’t always succeed to edit when I’m finished.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Dark chocolate for sure. I have to have some when I sit down to write.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

It’s a corner in a small spare bedroom. I have a small desk, a bookcase and a file cabinet. Small is the operative word.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Wow, how can I narrow that down. I especially like the cozies of Catherine Bruns, V.M. Burns and Amy Patricia Meade. They write fun and engaging mysteries and I admire the fact that they write multiple series at one time.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

I can’t say any one book has changed my life. I think all of them have helped me in some way, if for no other reason that they have entertained me.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

Oh, my, that email from Gemma was a heart stopper. I read it and couldn’t catch my breath. I greatly admire all the authors she represents and was thrilled to be included amongst them.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I love the genre I write in- cozies.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Dirty Dancing. Who wouldn’t love all of Patrick’s dance moves?

15–What is your favorite season?

Summer. The hotter the better, helps me get through upstate New York’s cold snowy winters.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Quietly with my family. A simple dinner (anything I don’t have to make) and of course cake.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

My television tastes usually run along the HGTV and cooking channel shows. I love shows like Carnival Eats that explore different parts of the country. I guess I’m an armchair traveler.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I love Italian—the pasta, sauces, and cheese—yum.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Like my main character I love to rug hook, so I usually have a hook and some wool strips in my hands.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

Right now, I’m working on book 4 in my Samantha Davies series. It will take place at a Fall festival, where, of course, Sam and Porkchop will stumble on another body.

Samantha Davies Mysteries #3

A Wedding Gone to the Dogs

Life for children’s book author Samantha Davies seems to finally be going smoothly. She has a new boyfriend, the love of her faithful dachshund and star of her books, Porkchop, and wedding bells are even ringing for Sam’s Southern Belle cousin, Candie Parker. After eleven engagements Candie has finally found Mr. Right in Mark Hogan, who is currently running for reelection as the Mayor of Wings Falls in small-town Upstate New York.

But when Candie hires Ex-Fiancé #1, Tommy, to repair her century-old purple Victorian home, disaster strikes. Instead of the perfect place for Candie and Mark to start their life as husband and wife, Candie finds Tommy dead—murdered with his own nail gun! Things only get worse when a few old racy pictures of Candie from when she and the victim were engaged surface, providing the police with the perfect motive for Candie to kill her ex.

With the police on the wrong trail, Sam isn’t about to sit on the sidelines in this murder investigation—much to the dismay of Sam’s boyfriend, Detective Hank Johnson. But it’s up to Sam to make sure her cousin doesn’t spend her honeymoon in the Wings Falls’ poky. Will Sam find out who the murderer is so Porkchop can walk down the aisle as Candie’s ringbearer? Or will the killer be saying “I do” to another victim… this time closer to home?
