Thank you so much to the amazing people at Fresh Fiction for having me today! I had a blast answering the questions below.

Fresh Fiction 20 Questions with an Author

1–What’s the name of your latest release?

I HATE YOU, FULLER JAMES

2–What is it about?

My YA sports romance centers around a bad bet and the fallout it causes between the star basketball player of Magnolia Valley High and his tutor.

3–What word best describes your heroine?

Strong!

4–What makes your hero irresistible?

His heart.

5–Who are the people your main characters turn to when they need help?

Wren turns to her best friends Dae and Brandon. Fuller turns to his little brother, Hudson.

6–What do you love about the setting of your book?

The setting was modeled after the small mountain towns surrounding the beautiful city I live in, Asheville, North Carolina.

7–Are you a plotter (follow an outline) or a pantster (write by the seat of your pants)?

I plotted out I HATE YOU, FULLER JAMES. I like to have a loose outline that helps guide me as I write, but if I want to change things up while I’m writing, I’m totally okay with that too! 🙂

8–What is an ideal writing day for you?

I love getting cozy on the couch, putting on a snuggly sweater, turning on a movie or TV series I’ve watched a million times, and digging in! I can easily sit for eight hours and work without taking a break; however, now that I have a little one, I have to fit most of my writing in while she sleeps!

9–Do you listen to music while you write, need total silence, or do you have the TV on?

I can totally have music or TV on, but it needs to be something I’ve heard or watched multiple times. Otherwise, I get distracted! 🙂

10– How do you approach research?

I like my stories to be as authentic as possible, so I do a lot of research!

11–What is your publishing journey story?

I’ve gone from working with an indie publisher, to self-publishing, to signing with Entangled. It’s been an incredibly exciting journey! I’ve also hit the USA Today bestsellers list twice.

12–Do you have critique partners/writing groups you want to give a shout-out to?

Of course! My friend and co-writer of IN THE PENALTY BOX (coming out with Entangled in 2021), Lynn Rush is the best! She’s my critique partner, co-author, and overall a wonderful person that I’m honored to call a friend! I also owe a huge thank you to Ali Novak, Alex Evansley, Kristi McManus. They were fantastic critique partners as well!

13–What’re the most frustrating things about being an author?

Hmmm… I’ll have to get back to you on that! LOL! Nothing comes to mind at this moment.

14–What’s your favorite scent?

I love anything rose, lilac, and/or peony!

15–What movie will you watch no matter what if it’s on TV?

Jurassic Park!

16–Do you like breakfast, lunch, or dinner best?

Lunch or dinner. I’m not a huge fan of breakfast.

17–What’s one thing you wish you knew more about?

I wish I was able to speak multiple languages fluently, especially Spanish, ASL, and Mandarin.

18–What’s the silliest thing you’ve recently done?

This was a while ago, but my hubs and I were out in the country, looking for the perfect Christmas tree. We’ve been to this family’s tree farm multiple times. They are so sweet and we love supporting local businesses. Anyway, after we picked a tree, they cut it down, and we followed them to pay and help get it hoisted to the top of my SUV. We were like fifteen feet from their cash register when I slipped on the side of the mountain. I put my arms out and managed to stay upright for about five seconds, but then I lost my balance and fell face-first into the mud. I think everyone was too shocked to laugh at first, but once I realized that I was fine, we all had a lonnnnng chuckle! Ha ha ha!

19–What can readers expect from you next?

The YA sports romance that Lynn Rush and I co-wrote, IN THE PENALTY BOX, will hit bookstores near you in February of 2021! Woot woot! I’m so excited for this book! Also, we have a super-secret project in the works, but you’ll have to stay tuned to my social media (@KellyAnneBlount) for more details!

I HATE YOU, FULLER JAMES by Kelly Anne Blount

I Hate You, Fuller James

I hate you, Fuller James.

I hate your floppy hair and your lopsided grin and those laughing blue eyes that always seem to be laughing at me.

I hate that you’re the most popular guy in school and I’m still the girl who sneezed and spit out her retainer on someone at a middle school dance. It’s just such a cliché.

I hate that I’m being forced to tutor you in English and keep it a secret from everyone. Because otherwise it might put our basketball team’s chances at winning State in jeopardy, and even though I hate you, I love basketball.

I hate that it seems like you’re keeping a secret from me…and that the more time we spend together, the less I feel like I’m on solid ground. Because I’m starting to realize there’s so much more to you than meets the eye. Underneath it all, you’re real.

But what I hate most is that I really don’t hate you at all.
