Lynette Eason and Kelly Underwood | Title Challenge: DEADLY CHARADE

October 28, 2026

It’s Lynette Eason and Kelly Underwood, teaming up to introduce you to DEADLY CHARADE, book one in the FBI New Recruit series. If you love fast paced, high-energy suspense, you’ve come to the right place. DEADLY CHARADE features a rookie FBI agent looking to make a name for herself. Day one, she’s handed an undercover assignment that is going to make or break her career—assuming she can pull off a fake marriage to her fellow agent that she just met.

D— Day One. Special Agent Kira Miller is fresh out of FBI training and is immediately thrown into the deep end. She and Special Agent Bryce Lambert head undercover, posing as a married couple to get close to some dangerous bad guys. Now the fun begins with a crash course in getting to know each other so Kira and Bryce can make a convincing couple.

E—Expert Skills. Kira’s translation skills come in handy. She speaks fluent Russian and translates a conversation uncovered on the dark web. Two men seem very interested in a rabbit statue on display at a gallery and the FBI wants to know why. A possible art heist? Or something more sinister? Kira and Bryce are tasked with investigating.

A—Art theft. The mission is simple: stop a secret organization from getting their hands on a priceless art collection that has been missing for almost a century. What could go wrong?

D—Danger. The closer Kira and Bryce get to the truth, the more the danger escalates. Car chases, professional assassins, a mysterious cave, and plenty of plot twists to make suspense fans extremely happy.

L—Lies. People aren’t who they say they are, and Bryce and Kira must determine who they can trust.

Y— Yellow and Gold. The missing treasure in DEADLY CHARADE is based on the real Amber Room. This priceless treasure went missing during WWII. To this date, no one has found it and the speculation runs wild. The room was made of natural amber panels with shining colors ranging from a pale yellow to a deep cognac, accented with gold leaves.

C— Close friends. One of the story’s themes is that Kira has close friends that will step in and help her in time of need. Kira is adopted, and struggles with feeling like she has to perform for people to stick around in her life. But her friends turn that lie upside down.

H—Hidden. A secret stash of priceless art is hidden away by a collector who wanted to protect and preserve art. But when clues to the treasure room are discovered, it’s a race to find it. If the criminals get there first, the treasure might be sold, disappearing for all future generations.

A—Alias. Part of an undercover assignment involves a little acting. Kira has spent her entire life pretending to be someone she’s not, working hard to meet everyone’s expectations. So she adapts to her undercover role with ease. But growing close to Bryce changes things. He sees through her own charade.

R—Relationship dynamics. Kira and Bryce are the classic opposites attract. He’s a strait-laced, by the book, FBI agent. Kira bends the rules at times and trusts her gut instinct. And yet, their partnership works. But can they protect their hearts in the process?

A—Adopted. Kira was adopted from a Russian orphanage when she was ten years old. While her parents were loving and supportive, Kira struggles with finding love when it always seems to come with strings attached.

D—Desperation. When the villain in the story gets desperate, the stakes go through the roof. Kira and Bryce walk through a minefield of clues, trying to stay one step ahead.

E—Epic Ending. DEADLY CHARADE has an epic conclusion. Who will be the first to find the treasure room, and how many will come out alive?

One wrong move and their cover is blown. So their charade sparking real feelings is the last twist they can afford.

Special Agent Kira Miller’s new career at the FBI has started‑‑in translations. It’s not the opportunity she was hoping for to show off her skills, until she detects a lead in some paperwork. Now assigned an undercover role, she’s in her element as she gathers intel on an art smuggling ring. She’s daunted not by the mission but by her cover‑‑posing as a married woman to the fake husband she met less than twenty‑four hours earlier.

Special Agent Bryce Lambert’s assignment to go undercover as a newlywed couple with Kira has the two of them moving next door to the prime suspects, and a relationship is the last thing he wants, fake or real. With secret auctions and hidden treasures, there’s plenty to keep them busy‑‑if only they can play the part their lives and careers depend upon while keeping their own hearts in check.

Romantic suspense novelists Lynette Eason and Kelly Underwood collaborate in this fast‑paced, clean thriller delivering fake‑dating tension, forced proximity, and FBI intrigue‑‑perfect for fans of Elizabeth Goddard, Irene Hannon, Dani Pettrey, and edge‑of‑your‑seat reads.

About Kelly Underwood

Kelly Underwood

Kelly Underwood’s favorite things are reading, writing, and drinking coffee. She was born in New Hampshire, but don’t ask her about snow, because she’s been a Florida girl since she was twelve. Her debut novel with Sunrise Publishing gave Kelly the incredible opportunity to work with Lynette Eason as her mentor and lead author. Defending Honor, part of the Elite Guardians series, was published in October 2022 and earned third place in the Selah Awards and was a finalist in the Carol Awards. Since then, Kelly has continued to captivate readers with multiple romantic suspense novels.

Beyond writing, Kelly shares her love of reading through her blog, Best in Suspense. She also served as the 2024 and 2025 president for the Central Florida chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers. When she’s not plotting twists and turns for her next novel, you’ll find her out and about with her therapy dog—a feisty golden retriever named Maizie—bringing joy to everyone from children to senior citizens. She also loves traveling and has recently fallen in love with Ireland and Scotland—maybe you’ll see these settings as the backdrop to one of her future novels.

Kelly is a sucker for a good suspense novel, the kind you must read cover-to-cover until the mystery is solved and the bad guys are in handcuffs. If you’re looking for her, she’s probably on her back patio with Maizie, a Kindle in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.
