What book made you fall in love with the genre you write?

While I was writing science fiction, I picked up a copy of P.C. Cast’s Goddess of the Sea at a local convention. Not only did I love the book, I fell in love with the genres of fantasy and SF romance. It meant I could keep writing SF and fantasy but I could add the romance I always wanted to write about.

If a movie were made of your most recent book, who would you cast in
the lead and why?

My most recent book is SF cyborg romance DEGREE OF RESISTANCE. I would kill or die to have Jessica Alba as Evie Contreras because she’s smart, tough, and perfectly embodies who Evie is, and Gerard Butler as Captain Ben Drake because he does tough but tender well. Come on, Powerball!

What was the first story you ever wrote?

Many moons ago when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, I was in fourth grade and had to write a short story. Since it was around Christmas, I decided to write about the continuing adventures of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and what happened when he had to help an injured Abominable Snowman. My teacher wanted to send it in to a contest, but when she asked me if I’d come up with it myself I said no because I thought she was referring to the characters of Rudolph and Abominable. It was my first missed publication opportunity, but not my last.

If you could change the ending to any famous book, TV show, or
movie, what would it be and how would you rewrite it? (Spoiler alert!)

Jack didn’t die at the end of Titanic. Nope. There was more than enough room for both of them on that chunk of paneling. He survived, married Rose, and they lived happily until he died in his sleep, and you will never convince me otherwise.

What is your favorite part of meeting your readers (and new
readers)?

I love finding out what they want to read next! If I have enough people saying, “Could we see X in a story next?” I’ll do my best to make that happen. As for new readers, I like meeting them because I’m a reader myself, and it’s always fun to talk about our favorite authors.
