What is the title of your latest release?
WHAT A NIGHTMARE
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
When a young woman with the power to dream nightmares that can affect reality accidentally kills her boss, she returns to her Texas hometown in the hopes she will learn the truth about this deadly power. But as she unearths her past, she comes face to face with new violence and begins dreaming nightmares for everyone who wronged her.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Though I have lived in Los Angeles for almost a decade, I grew up in Texas and always wanted to set a novel there at some point. WHAT A NIGHTMARE was the perfect story since it involves a homecoming and a lot of festering secrets that fit well in a small conservative town where the church dominates the culture.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
I would! For how dangerous Haven is to those who hurt her, she is also a darkly funny and deeply empathetic person who I greatly admire for her strength.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Angry, vengeful, hopeful
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
That horror takes on many different shapes, and what I love most about writing it is saying something powerful in an entertaining way.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
When drafting, I always start every writing day by reading over what I wrote the previous day and making edits/polishing. I am a plotter, so I don’t usually have big holes or have to go back and change elements in the first draft.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
In general, anything with butter. I think butter is the greatest gift to humanity, and whoever discovered it was a god. But I am not a snacker, so when I write I’m not usually eating, but will always have some kind of beverage beside me. Usually hot or iced tea, Diet Coke, or sparkling water.
Describe your writing space/office!
I have an adjustable standing desk with a lot of trinkets: two Saturo Gojo figures, two Freiren figures, one Aki figure (I watch a lot of anime), candles, plants, and many crystals. There’s two bookshelves which include some faves and TBR books, as well as one with my author copies, and my extensive tarot collection and perfume collection on display. There’s a blue velvet chair and a fold-up treadmill which I use daily to help get my steps in. It’s comfortable, bright and functional.
Who is an author you admire?
Liz Kerin. She’s an incredible talent not only as an author but also as a screenwriter, and she’s just the warmest, loveliest, realist, coolest person.
Is there a book that changed your life?
THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT. I wouldn’t be writing novels if I hadn’t read those books.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I am now on my 7th release, which is wild to say, and I am so lucky to be here. I think the best “the call” was for my YA debut LOST GIRLS OF HOLLOW LAKE because it happened on my actual birthday. Best bday gift so far!
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Definitely horror, but I always enjoy a little romance thrown into my horror.
What’s your favorite movie?
This is such a hard question! But, because I have probably seen it more than any other movie, I have to say the original SCREAM.
What is your favorite season?
Fall, hands down.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Usually very lowkey. I am a Scorpio and I am not too big on parties. I like to do something special with my husband and son, eat good food, and reflect on the last year of my life. However, this year I will be in Salem, MA for an event for WHAT A NIGHTMARE on my birthday, which I’m looking forward to since I have always wanted to go to Salem.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Check content warnings, but the Hulu show FURIOUS was absolutely brilliant and such an important watch. On the lighter side, I loved Sterling Point.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Homemade bread and butter.
What do you do when you have free time?
I don’t have free time! But in the evenings, I do make a point to spend time with my son. We watch anime together, and recently began a full watch of Supernatural.
What can readers expect from you next?
I have a crossover YA coming out June 15th 2027 called A DARKNESS LIVES THERE that is my ode to the haunted house subgenre of horror, and it’s a super special book, very close to my heart.
WHAT A NIGHTMARE by Rebekah Faubion

They called her a nightmare, so she became one.
Haven Powers has spent years trying to disappear. Once a loud, troublemaking girl who defied every expectation in her small town of Friendship, Texas, now she’s learned to hide her fire behind a quiet receptionist’s smile. It’s safer that way—for her, and for everyone else.
When an unsettling encounter with her predatory boss cracks open the tightly locked box inside her, Haven dreams a terrifying dream about him, only to wake up and discover it’s come true; he’s dead. Desperate to gain control of this deadly power once and for all, Haven returns home.
Welcomed suspiciously with open arms, Haven is immediately met with the ghosts of her past. Under the suffocating pressure of the town and her family who believe obedience is next to godliness, Haven soon finds herself on a path to revenge. She’ll show them what happens when the girl they called too much, too loud, too everything, finally lets her demons loose.
