Sheila Roberts | Title Challenge: MERMAID BEACH

April 25, 2023

I’m Sheila Roberts, and this spring I am going back to the beach (Moonlight Harbor to be exact), for my seventh novel in my Moonlight Harbor series. I love this beach town and I love the people who live there. I especially love The Mermaids – the band made up of Bonnie Brinks, her mother Loretta, and Bonnie’s daughter Avril, three generations of women who know how to sell a song. Now, if they can just sort out their love lives and make their dreams come true, they’ll really be rockin’!

M is for Mermaids, and I hope you’ll love these three!

E reminds us that everyone swims into dangerous waters once in a while. But our heroines are proof that you can find your way to a safe harbor eventually.

R stands for romance … times three.

M is for the men who are giving our poor Mermaids grief and the good ones who are there for them, no matter what.

A is for Avril, young and ambitious – too young to go face the dangers lurking in Nashville. At least that’s how her mom sees it.

I … Hmmm. How about I hope you’ll enjoy spending time with the Mermaids as much as I did when I was writing their story? Three different women, three different tails, er, tales.

D is for devotion, both family devotion and the devotion of a good man. Loretta is love challenged, and her latest disaster would be enough to make a lesser woman give up. Thankfully, she is not a lesser woman. Bonnie needs to learn to trust. It will take the devotion of a good man to help her get there. As for Avril, she has the devotion of her man Kenny. But will she lose sight of that when she moves to Nashville to pursue her dream of songwriting success and meets a real charmer?

B stands for beach. Life’s always good at the beach, especially in Moonlight Harbor. And when you visit and hear The Mermaids sing at The Drunken Sailor you’ll agree.

E is for “Even mermaids get the blues.” But these women will find their way to that HEA

A says after all their struggles, Bonnie, Loretta and Avril will all find a way to make their dreams come true.

C is for conflict. Yep, it’s part of that mother-daughter thing. No matter how much we love each other, we’re gonna butt heads sometimes. (And how boring would a story be without conflict?)

H is for hearts bound for happily ever after. Loretta’s is bruised but she’s not giving up on love. Bonnie’s is under lock and key. And Avril is willing to risk hers to chase her dreams. HEA’s for all, I say!

MERMAID BEACH by Sheila Roberts

Moonlight Harbor #7

Mermaid Beach

USA TODAY bestselling author Sheila Roberts takes listeners back to Moonlight Harbor with a story of music, hopes, dreams and family, brimming with Sheila’s trademark humor and heart.

Bonnie Brinks and her all-woman band, The Mermaids, are the pride of Moonlight Harbor. They’re the house band at The Drunken Sailor, and that’s just the right amount of fame for Bonnie. A lifetime ago, she went to Nashville to make it big, but she returned home with a broken heart and broken dreams. Now she’s got a comfortable life and a brilliant daughter, Avril, who plays for The Mermaids alongside Bonnie and Bonnie’s mother, Loretta.

Avril has big dreams of her own. Her life in Moonlight Harbor is good—she loves singing and playing guitar with The Mermaids, and she has the sweetest, most loyal boyfriend a girl could ask for—but it all feels so…small. She can’t help wondering if there’s something more out there for her. And she doesn’t understand why her mom won’t support her going to Nashville to find out.

Meanwhile, Bonnie threw in the towel on her love life long ago, but Loretta sure hasn’t. She’s determined to be swept off her feet, and she wants the same for her daughter. When the hunky new owner of The Drunken Sailor turns the tables on the band and Avril announces she’s leaving Moonlight Harbor, Bonnie’s comfortable life seems to be drifting away. Will these three generations of Mermaids find their happy endings on the Washington coast? Or will the change in the winds leave them all shipwrecked?
