Kelsey Kicklighter Interview – Fairy Tales and the Fae
Author Guest , Interviews / May 12, 2022

Faye, your female protagonist, is half-faerie. As a writer, what is your fascination with all things fae? (I ask as somebody who is more interested in vampires and werewolves). Honestly, my obsession with the fae started when I was about four or five…with the movie Thumbelina. I know I burnt through at least one of those VHS tapes. But it wasn’t enough. I started searching for books on faerie tales–I was very much a library kid. I got hooked on the old school stuff, especially The Six Swans, East o’ the Sun, West o’ the Moon, and The Ballad of Tamlin. I liked that the fae weren’t really heroes or villains, but somehow both. And that to survive them you had to be very, very clever. But I’m also a fan of vampires and werewolves! Anything mythological or lore based, I’m usually 100% in.   How would you describe Faye? Faye is first and foremost, a protector. That’s who she is at her core. She has a good head on her shoulders but has a tendency to make rash decisions when the fate of those she loves is hanging in the balance. She tends to shield herself with sarcasm and…

Monster Romance: Fangs, Fur, Scales, and Tails – Oh My!
Author Spotlight / April 21, 2022

He looked huge. He looked like a monster. He looked like hers. ENSNARED BY THE ALIEN MEDIC by Nessa Claugh   I have been a paranormal romance fan for years. I always trace back my affection for paranormal romances to when I read the first vampire romance by Christine Feehan when it first came out. Over the years I have read books with assorted supernatural heroes like vampires, werewolves, psychics, and others. That’s different from the kind of hero I’m writing about here. Those heroes were ones who either could change shape from human to animal or were a vampire or something else otherworldly who mostly looked human – even if they weren’t at their core. The kind of hero I’m writing about today is one who has mostly unhuman-like physical characteristics. So much so, that I know there are readers – even devoted romance readers – who would be appalled and disgusted to have them be the hero of any story. I understand that initial reaction, but I think they need to read one of these books and re-evaluate. I have read some of these books and hope to read more soon. Though these characters may have fangs, fur,…

Melissa Marr Interview – Tales of the Fae
Author Guest , Interviews / April 14, 2022

Your book DARK SUN involves the faery world. What is it about the fae that you find compelling as an author? I grew up on folklore, so I draw on that old lore of the faeries. The faeries have a removed world, but they visit ours, and they can be invisible to the eye at their will and whim. Iron is toxic. They offer bargains that seem like a good idea, but they’re always clever in ways we aren’t. Beautiful, dangerous, tempting, and ancient. Yes, please. And, as every tale goes, mortals arrogantly think we can successfully outwit them—in part because the faeries cannot lie. What’s not to love there? So many possibilities!   What would you say is the central conflict in DARK SUN? Would you say there is an equal mix of action and romance? The question of the book is coming to terms with who you are and what you seek in this life. In Katherine and Urian’s case, love changes everything for both of them. Romance? Definitely. Action? Yes. It’s also a story that draws us back toward the original characters. We see where our first WL protagonists are about five years after that series ended….

Nessa Claugh Interview – Aliens and Monsters in Romance
Author Guest , Interviews / March 24, 2022

Your new book, ENSNARED BY THE ALIEN MEDIC, is the third book in your Ragrim Conflict sci-fi romance series. Can it be read as a standalone? Yes, it does require the reader to have a basic familiarity with the Mars Needs Women/Bride Program tropes, but that’s about it. Mars Needs Women is at its core, where an alien species needs women to repopulate. The Bride Program trope kind of branches off MNW in that it has an actual set up program to get human women for the aliens and they aren’t just being kidnapped.     I love alien romance stories and I have oodles of questions. For readers, like me, new to the series – what are the basics of your Ragrim Conflict world? I’m trying to avoid spoilers for the first two books, but humans have pretty much tanked Earth’s biosphere and climate. The weather is strong and unpredictable, food security is a thing of the past, and while humans are trying to turn things around, it’s a slow slog. Then the Ralothians came. The gold-skinned alien pirates started plucking human women off Earth, and the only thing protecting Earth from a full invasion was the fact that…

Ruby Dixon Interview – Aliens, Dragons, and Other Out of This World Hotties
Author Guest , Interviews / March 17, 2022

Your book, DARK FIRE, just came out. It’s part of your “Fireblood Dragon” series. I think that might be the only series of yours I haven’t dipped into. Can you explain for readers what that world is about? Where it takes place and the basic dynamic between species. DARK FIRE is set in the world of Fireblood Dragons, which is our world, except seven years in the past, a Rift between worlds was torn open and a host of dragons flew into our world from another. The dragons immediately went crazy and destroyed everything, killing, and destroying until there wasn’t much of civilization left.  Now people live in ‘forts’ set up in old cities and try to eke out an existence. Turns out that the dragons aren’t just sky-sharks – they’re also people. Shifter people! And the only thing that can tame a male dragon is a mate.   I was so happy to find out your Ice Planet Barbarian books were being reissued. I have many of them on my kindle, but with the new covers being so pretty, I might finally get print copies of my favorites. Will all your Ice Planet Barbarian books be reissued? I get…

Alison Aimes | 20 Questions: BROKEN HEIR

1–What is the title of your latest release? BROKEN HEIR, A Dark Fated-Mates Romance 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? He’s a ruthless warlord out for revenge and redemption. She’s his enemy’s daughter with a big secret of her own— and he’s about to leave her breathless, begging, and broken. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? BROKEN HEIR is the third book in the Ruthless Warlords series and so I knew early on that this book would be about the beautiful, broken alpha Alexi’s book, the third oldest brother in the Skolov family, and his search for his missing brother among his enemies, the Sartins. I also knew he would find his fated mate in the midst -and that it didn’t matter that the timing was all wrong, or that he was promised to someone else, or that she was involved in her own mess and that their attraction ruined all their plans and only made everything more complicated, dangerous, and more of a mess. I knew they’d be unable to stay away from each other, and I knew she would help heal him while he saved her too.  I knew it…

Coreene Callahan | My Mornings + Grand Prize Giveaway!
Author Guest / February 17, 2022

I’m a morning person. An extreme one. Most days, I’m awake and rolling before 5 AM. Half an hour later, I’m happily planted inside my writing lair (even on weekends). Which means, when I tell people I’m that kind of morning person, I’m treated to no-end of long, horrified looks. But as much as you might think it, I’m not crazy. Getting up super early works for me. I love coffee, quiet, and the shadowy vestiges outside. I want full focus and a free spirit. I need my characters to show up, and if I’m up before dawn, they arrive on the front stoop of my mind in quick order. Some are polite and knock. Most don’t bother. They flip the door to my imagination open, walk in (usually in combat boots) and make themselves right at home. And I gotta say… That’s just the way I like it. So there you have it…just a little something about me. Thanks for stopping by, and please feel free to follow me in all the usual places for book updates and special giveaways. Drop me a line anytime. I’m always happy to hear from you! Where to find me: Website: https://www.CoreeneCallahan.com Amazon Author Page:…

I always wanted to write a prequel for this series and it reminded me how much I love writing in this world. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Rebecca Ross | Exclusive Excerpt: A RIVER ENCHANTED
Author Guest , Excerpt / February 9, 2022

Sometimes Sidra saw the ghost of Torin’s first wife sitting at the table. The visits occurred when one season ended and another began, when change could be felt in the air. Donella Tamerlaine’s ghost liked to bask in the morning light, dressed in leather armor and plaid, watching as Sidra stood in the kitchen by the fire, cooking breakfast for Maisie. Sometimes Sidra felt unworthy, as if Donella were assessing her. How well was Sidra caring for the daughter and husband she had left behind? But most of the time Sidra felt as if Donella was simply keeping her company, so fastened was her soul to this place, to this ground. The women—one dead and one living—were connected by love and blood and soil. Three cords that were so interwoven that Sidra was not surprised that Donella appeared to her and her alone. “I have to send Maisie to school this autumn,” Sidra said as she stirred the parritch. The cottage was quiet, dusted with dawn, and the wind was just beginning to howl its morning gossip. When Donella was silent, Sidra glanced at her. The ghost sat in her favorite chair at the table, her tawny hair flowing…
