When her fiancé, Sam, disappears on the same day her mentor and biggest client is killed, hotshot Chicago attorney Izzy McNeil starts counting. But trouble keeps coming. Usually I pride myself on my intuition. I listen to that voice that says, “Something bad is happening…” or maybe “Get out. Now.” But on that Tuesday at the end of October, my psyche must have been protecting the one remaining day I still believed life was orderly and the universe liked me. Because I didn’t hear that voice. I never saw it coming. They say bad things happen in threes. Daily Dose | Top Ten Vampire Romance Books

The Daily DoseSmattering of Romance, Paranormal, and General Observations Just because I don’t read a lot of vampire fiction doesn’t mean I don’t like it. I have been reading about vampires since I read INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE decades ago. I have read Bram Stoker, the Vampire Diaries, TWILIGHT and many others in between. I remember when finding a book with vampires as main characters was hard to do – thus most that you did find were just really well done novels with engaging stories, great characterizations and worth involving yourself in. The Daily DoseSmattering of Romance, Paranormal, and General Observations Happy Sunday everyone! Sorry for no Smackdown yesterday, I was sucked in by a story that I couldn’t stop writing and when I finally did take a break from that, I got sucked in by a book that I couldn’t put down. Fresh Pick | DOG ON IT by Spencer Quinn

Chet And Bernie #1 February 2009 On Sale: February 10, 2009 320 pages ISBN: 1416585834EAN: 9781416585831Hardcover$25.00 Mystery Pet Lovers Buy at Amazon.com A Fresh Fiction read for 2009! Dog On It by Spencer Quinn Meet Chet, the wise and lovable canine narrator of Dog on It, who works alongside Bernie, a down-on-his-luck private investigator. Chet might have flunked out of police school (“I’d been the best leaper in K-9 class, which had led to all the trouble in a way I couldn’t remember exactly, although blood was involved”), but he’s a detective through and through. In this, their first adventure, Chet and Bernie investigate the disappearance of Madison, a teenage girl who may or may not have been kidnapped, but who has definitely gotten mixed up with some very unsavory characters. A well-behaved, gifted student, she didn’t arrive home after school and her divorced mother is frantic. Bernie is quick to take the case — something about a cash flow problem that Chet’s not all that clear about — and he’s relieved, if vaguely suspicious, when Madison turns up unharmed with a story that doesn’t add up. But when she disappears for a second time in a week, Bernie and…

SANDI SHILHANEK | HOW WILL YOU SPEND THE NEXT WEEK
Guests / December 20, 2009

As the holiday shopping season is ending I am wondering did you have to make a mad dash to the mall for one last gift? Did you order your presents online? Or perhaps you even regifted something to someone. I did all of the above this year. Early on my oldest found what he wanted for Christmas, and it was a web only deal. I did however have to go to the store to pick it up in person; it wasn’t delivered to my home. My youngest found what he wanted in a Black Friday ad, so I was up and out dealing with the crowds. Then, there was the gift I gave that was actually something I got in a gift exchange, and knew I wouldn’t use, but hoped the recipient would enjoy. AMANDA MCINTYRE | APPROACHING WINTER SOLSTICE
Guests / December 15, 2009

There are so many traditions we hold dear at this time of year. Many stem from our memories of growing up, or experiences that we incorporate into our lives afterward. I was not born in the Gaelic isles, but I have it in my lineage-Scotch and Black Irish, my mother used to tell me, though in truth, I’m still researching the latter. But as there is for many of us, this far off island holds a powerful draw in its beauty, legends and lore and so it was for me, when I wrote WINTER AWAKENING in my novella for Winter’s Desire-a Harlequin Spice anthology just released that features the magic of Winter Solstice. December 21, 2009 marks the “shortest day” or what is also called the “Darkest Midnight.” One year ago, on that day, my writing partners in this Celtic journey, Kristi Astor and Charlotte Featherstone, submitted our first manuscript for a mini-series of Celtic-based anthologies focusing on the ancient Celtic calendar year and the festivals of the seasons. Winter’s Desire (Winter Solstice) Beltane Fires(Spring Solstice) and Dark Pleasures (Samhain) we have one more in the works celebrating the festival of Midsummer as well. Each book is unique in that…

Sara Reyes | Celebrating the Holidays…with a tea!
Guests / December 12, 2009

Our book club has an annual Holiday tea. It’s a great time and usually very memorable. Some of our members come to every activity and some come to most and some to just a few a year so the Holiday Tea is when we get to see all our friends. And we have fun. Our monthly teas take place in public establishments but our holiday tea is usually in one of our homes. We’ve toyed with having it in a public place — less stress on the hostess — but it always is better for us to have it in a home. We get noisy and happy. The tea breaks down into four distinct parts: the tea, the checking out of the “goodies” or the door prizes, the book swap, and the White Elephant exchange. When it’s at my house my daughter is in charge of the food. She sets the menu, makes the stuff and does all the fretting. She’s getting very good at this, maybe not as fancy as some but the food is delicious, and no one goes home hungry! My men do all the heavy lifting (and the clean-up which is worth their weight in gold)….
