Even though there are a gazillion or so paranormal romances out there nowadays, it still surprises me when I read stories about supernatural beings that work a regular job or are some type of performer. Stereotypes can be a hard thing to shake. Part of me still expects a vampire to have a castle and be shrouded in shadows and be all dark and mysterious. The books I’m going to discuss here are full of vampires, orcs, demons, and all kinds of paranormal hotties who would be amazing to have as a showstopper at any party. The first paranormal romance I remember reading was DARK PRINCE by Christine Feehan. I can think of a few characters from her Carpathian series who would make my list for must-have entertainment. I know, I know. These two series have different versions of “vampires”, but I think it would be cool to have Savannah from DARK MAGIC by Christine Feehan perform her magic act for Laurell K. Hamilton’s Circus of the Damned. Of course, her honey Gregori wouldn’t be thrilled about having her around all that paranormal eye-candy. Four bands that would make an electric musical combo would be the Dark Troubadours from DARK…

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Lizzy Gayle! Writes: Fantasy and sci-fi in which romance meets imagination. My characters might suffer but will always end up with a happy ending. Heroics (reluctant or not), heart, and humor with fast-paced twists and turns describe all my books. I don’t shy away from the dark though, so reader beware. About: I am a practicing psychic who finds magic every day with my bunny familiars and the enchanted elixir of coffee. I’ve been consuming all forms of fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal in books since I was young. When I grew up, I discovered romance and now enjoy my fantasy with some spice. I write what I like to read, and sometimes that means genre mashing with at least a touch of the fantastic. I’m looking for readers who love: The desire to escape into another world Dark moments knowing there’s an HEA coming Tropes with something a little different, like djinn instead of vampires At least a touch of humor even in the…
1–What is the title of your latest release? HIS ROCK HARD RHYTHM 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Love, Orcs and Rock-and-Roll! Take a cocky lead singer of an Orc Rock band and throw him together with a witchy tour manager to make music and magic. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? My co-writer, Josie, and I – we’ve been friends for literally decades and we knew we wanted to work on a project together. So in November 2021, we met up in Vegas for a week in an AirBnB and we adventured and plotted! 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Hell yeah! Once Alexis loosens up, she’s a good time. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Orc, rock star, cinnamon roll 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Josie Kell taught me how to tell the difference between ‘former’ and ‘latter’. Former is F-F-First and Latter is L-L-Last. It’s something I’ve always jumbled up, but now is locked into my brain! 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Both! I am kind of chaotic, if I’m honest. I…
1–What is the title of your latest release? OUT OF THE ASHES. It’s the third book in the Ashes & Dust trilogy. 2–What is it about? It’s the culmination of the story that started in book 1, when someone was threatening to expose the existence of Toronto’s paranormal community. Evan, a vampire PI who deals with chronic depression, and Colin, a creature known as a phoenix who can control fire and magical energy, thought they found out who was behind everything in book 2, but this one throws a few curveballs their way. They’ve got to work with former enemies to truly solve the mystery – but first, they have to deal with the repercussion of Colin’s decision at the end of book 2 to dissolve their forced bond against Evan’s wishes. There are lots of up and downs in this one, but a very firm happily ever after! 3–What do you love about the setting of your book? Toronto is such a great mix of diverse settings. You’ve got the old-fashioned, touristy promenade of the Distillery District, industrial areas that make for great locations for out-of-sight paranormal shenanigans, and lakefront beaches for quiet moments. In this book,…
Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors as a reader you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Cassandra Rose Clarke! Writes: Dark paranormal romance with an edgy twist like in SINGING WITH THE DEVIL. Think demons-turned-rock stars playing in smoky dive bars and demon-hunters-turned-accountants getting drawn back in for one last demon hunt. Think forbidden romance blooming in the sultry swamps of Louisiana, evil cult leaders threatening to tear our lovers apart, and enough dark magic to stop the apocalypse. About: I’m a life-long Texan currently living in Virginia, where I’m delighted to experience four distinct seasons for the first time (autumn really is as magical as everyone says). Non-writing interests include quilting and embroidery, watching more TV than I probably should, perfecting my lavender latte recipe, and attempting to land a flawless double pirouette as a second-chance adult ballet dancer. Somehow, I wound up with four cats. What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match: My ideal reader loves: Brooding monster boys Heroines learning to trust in their own abilities Spooky vibes Seriously…
Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present MaryJanice Davidson! Writes: NYT and USA Today best-selling author MaryJanice Davidson has been on best-seller lists around the world. Her latest Shifter paranormal romance, MAD FOR A MATE, brings back her popular werebears and the snark for which she is (in)famous. That’s the problem facing Verity Lane, proud member of a club out to prove themselves by participating in dangerous stunts. Which is probably how she ended up on this strange island… Bear shifter Magnus Berne wants two things: to connect with his motherless goddaughter, and to find out who keeps dumping dead bodies on his property. When he discovers Verity on his island, he’s determined to get some answers—but it’s clear that whoever has been killing shifters like her is just as resolved to keep it quiet. And now that Verity is in the crosshairs, they’ll have to move quickly to stay ahead, stay alive, and stay together….
As a reader, I always wondered why it was necessary when an author would come out with a book at the end of a series, telling the same story but from another character’s perspective. Now, as a rabid Night Huntress fangirl, I get it. For years we got stories without directly getting Bones’ perspective. He’s an amazing character with ever getting that window into his psyche, but sometimes you just couldn’t help but wonder. Like in DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE. I admit that it’s not my fav in the series – but largely because I just didn’t understand where Bones was coming from – which is why I loved OUTTAKES FROM THE GRAVE in which you have alternate scenes that gave me what I felt was missing from that earlier book. So, I know why I’m so excited to read THE OTHER HALF OF THE GRAVE, but what motivated you to write it? You could say that Bones did, and it took me completely by surprise. A couple years ago, I was reading the beginning of HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE for some reason, and on impulse, I re-wrote chapter one from Bones’ point of view. Then, just for fun,…
He looked huge. He looked like a monster. He looked like hers. ENSNARED BY THE ALIEN MEDIC by Nessa Claugh I have been a paranormal romance fan for years. I always trace back my affection for paranormal romances to when I read the first vampire romance by Christine Feehan when it first came out. Over the years I have read books with assorted supernatural heroes like vampires, werewolves, psychics, and others. That’s different from the kind of hero I’m writing about here. Those heroes were ones who either could change shape from human to animal or were a vampire or something else otherworldly who mostly looked human – even if they weren’t at their core. The kind of hero I’m writing about today is one who has mostly unhuman-like physical characteristics. So much so, that I know there are readers – even devoted romance readers – who would be appalled and disgusted to have them be the hero of any story. I understand that initial reaction, but I think they need to read one of these books and re-evaluate. I have read some of these books and hope to read more soon. Though these characters may have fangs, fur,…
Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Jessica Clare! Writes: A witchy rom-com about Reggie, who doesn’t believe in magic but apprentices for a witch for the money, and Ben, who’s 500 years old and hates everything in the universe except possibly Reggie’s freckles. About: Jessica Clare likes cats, coffee, video games and reading. She’s a big fan of cozy nights by the fireplace and staying indoors. As an introvert, she’d be happiest watching Great British Bake Off or Survivor and less happy actually being on those shows. Ugh, people. What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match: Loves a tall, dark, and surly hero Loves a plucky heroine with a can-do manner Into witches of all kinds Doesn’t mind some cat jokes Loves slightly absurd humor What to expect if we’re compatible: Devoted heroes No pets in danger Low drama/gray moments Humor in everything A 3 to a 4 on the steam scale (out of 5). Hot but vanilla. Is that a thing? Let’s pretend it’s a thing. GO HEX YOURSELF by Jessica…
