The Character Most Likely – Katie MacAlister Talks Dragons, Vampires, Billionaires and More

December 15, 2022

Most likely to run out in a snowstorm in slippers and a long woolen coat to go walkies with a dog?

Aisling Grey, definitely. She caters to Jim’s every whim despite the fact that he’s a centuries-old demon in Newfoundland form. You’d think he could potty by himself, but no. He needs Aisling to make sure he’s safe when he’s at his most vulnerable (as he’s conned her into thinking, anyway). (Aisling is in almost all of my dragon books like YOU SLAY ME.)

Most likely to be underwhelmed by a drop-dead handsome billionaire?

Harry Knight. Although Harry appreciates hunky billionaires as much as the next person, she isn’t in the least bit fooled by their sexy selves and looks beyond the lickability of said billionaires for characters of substance. And a wickedly good sense of humor. (Harry is in my Greek Billionaire Romcom series – It’s All Greek to Me).

Most likely to haunt a lost love?

Jenna Boyle, a weaver of time, and a woman who literally died for the vampire of her dreams. He didn’t stand for those sorts of shenanigans, of course, and had her resurrected, so technically, she is haunting him. Quite happily, even if she does come with a mad scientist bestie and that bestie’s herd of sexual partners. (Jenna and her crazy life is detailed in ENTHRALLED.)

Most likely to wrong those who fought against him?

Baltic. Ah, Baltic, son of the First Dragon, and thus a very special—if completely pig-headed and stubborn – dragon who loves deeply and endlessly. To the point where he was willing to fight every other dragon in the world to bring his lost love back to his arms. Really, he is the most romantic of all my heroes, even though most of the dragon world feared him as a deadly foe. (Baltic makes his first appearance in the silver dragon books and continues from there through the rest of the series.)

Most likely to attempt to claim victory using brawn rather than brains?

Yet another dragon…Kostya, this time. He is dramatic, impulsive, hot-tempered, and very quick to act without pausing to think through his actions. Fortunately, he has a lovely woman who doesn’t put up with his crap and makes him much more reasonable to be around because on top of all of his annoying traits, he’s also devoted to his last breath, would give his life for family, and recognizes just how lucky he is to have the love of his life put up with him. (Kostya is also in most of the dragon series like DRAGONFALL…usually fighting with Baltic.)

Most likely to wield magic like a boss?

That would be Hallow of Penhallow in the region of Hallow (his parents had a particularly warped sense of humor when it came to naming him). He starts out in my Born Prophesy fantasy series as a humble arcanist, and by the third book, SHADOWBORN, has managed to be turned by two additional magic systems. This leaves him not only the master of three types of magic, but also at a very great risk of being destroyed by one or all of them combined. Despite that, Hallow rocks, and is one of my all-time favorite characters.

Most likely to save the day against all odds?

Dixon Ainslie is my nomination for pulling off a miracle win when everything is stacked against him. He never gives up, even when it goes against his wishes. He’s devoted to those he cares about and will drop everything to throw himself into a seemingly lost battle. He also has a sexy English accent, looks dapper in Edwardian clothing, and isn’t intimidated by the Russian mafia. (Dixon is part of the Matchmaker in Wonderland series of books like THE PERILS OF PAULIE).

Most likely to have the coolest otherworldly powers?

That has to be the First Dragon. Not only is he a demigod, he created the race of dragons, and honestly, you don’t get much cooler than that. He also has the ability to shapeshift into whoever or whatever he wants (because demigod), and loves to drop cryptic asides that leave people scratching their heads. DRAGON UNBOUND

Most likely to be misunderstood?

Karma Marx. As a half-poltergeist eliminator of ghosts—who can’t bring herself to actually do her job, and instead ends up with a collection of unhomed spirits, beings, and imps—she always finds herself under suspicion for various mysterious deaths, and despite that, manages to clear her name. Sometimes. OK, mostly she doesn’t, but it’s not her fault that everything makes her look bad when she’s really not. (Karma is in the Akashic League novels. The Stars That We Steal From the Night Sky)

Most likely to successfully multitask with a possible apocalypse on the horizon?

Ysolde, Baltic’s mate. She has been handling dragons and their various wars, struggles, and volatile natures on top of having a meddlesome demi-god as a father-in-law for centuries. There’s no apocalypse too big for her to wrangle and beat into submission. The Unbearable Lightness Of Dragons

Most likely to choose love over revenge?

Every single one of my heroes. I write them for myself, first, and life is too short to spend swooning over a book boyfriend who wouldn’t prefer to be with a loved one rather than seeking revenge. That doesn’t mean they won’t get revenge—because they often do—but never at the expense of the one they love. And each one of them are profoundly grateful for the women that love them, because they know that they don’t deserve such good luck.

BILLIONAIRE ROMCOM COLLECTION: BOOKS 1-3 by Katie MacAlister

Billionaire Romcom Collection: Books 1-3

A writer, a runner, and a princess walk into a bar…

This collection of the first three books in New York Times Bestselling Author Katie MacAlister’s billionaire romcom series is filled to the brim with sexy men, smart women, and more steam than you could shake a stick at!

IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME
This Greek god is about to meet his goddess…
When Eglantine “Harry” Knight sets off to Greece at the last minute to step in as manager of a friend’s touring band, the last thing she expects is to meet a billionaire Greek playboy. Iakovos Papaioannou is perfection on every level, except for his unpronounceable name. And Harry can’t stop herself from falling hard and fast for him.
Iakovos knew his sister hired her favorite band to perform at her birthday party, he’s just not sure where this six-foot-tall, wild-haired, tempestuous woman fits in, or how she’s already ended up in his bed—and in his heart. Harry is so not his type. She’s as infuriating as she is intriguing, and she can’t keep her hands off his butt. But she just may be the woman who knocks him off the world’s most eligible bachelor list for good…

EVER FALLEN IN LOVE
One man and a baby was all it took…
When sexy, bad-to-the-bone Greek playboy Theo Papaioannou finds himself in possession of a son he didn’t know he had, he has to overcome a lifetime of bad choices, and become the father his son deserves…assuming he can figure out how to change a diaper. It’s just lucky that Kiera Taylor is there to help…or it would be if she wasn’t keeping some dangerous secrets from him.
Kiera is on the run from a violent man who has threatened her more than once. And although she knows she shouldn’t trust Theo’s handsome dark looks, or his winning smile, or the way he makes all her good intentions melt, she has no choice. For somehow, she’s fallen for him and his adorable baby. Desperate for a happy future with them, she makes a deal with the devil, one that risks everything–and everyone–she loves.

A TALE OF TWO COUSINS
Being a princess doesn’t guarantee a fairytale happily ever after…
Thyra Beck may be a bona fide princess, but she doesn’t belong in the world of sexy Greek Billionaires like Dmitri Papaioannou. And she definitely wouldn’t risk achieving her life’s dream by giving in to temptation. Not with her crazy competition trying to eliminate her.
Dmitri’s life is exactly the way he likes: controlled, orderly, and without any complications. Then a desperate princess and her big orange cat fall into his life, and chaos ensues…a deliciously intriguing chaos that Dmitri isn’t sure he can resist.
Will Thyra fight for the position she was born to claim…or give in to the happiness that only Dmitri can provide?

About Katie MacAlister

Katie MacAlister

New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller Katie MacAlister has always loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn’t think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes. Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions.

More than fifty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and are regulars on the bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell. Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with two dogs and a cat, and can often be found lurking around online.
