Tina Gabrielle | 20 Questions: ONE NIGHT WITH AN EARL

October 22, 2021

1–What is the title of your latest release?

ONE NIGHT WITH AN EARL

2–What is it about?

I’ve always wanted to write a diverse historical romance. ONE NIGHT WITH AN EARL features a Middle Eastern heroine and a duty-bound earl. Ana—short for Anahit—is the daughter of an Arabic scholar. Ana’s diverse background is based on my own family. Here’s a blurb:

Ana Gardner is determined to lose her virginity before her thirtieth birthday. She’s no stranger to fake identities, having posed as a chaperone since the scandal that destroyed her titled family. So she dons a mask, changes into a low-cut red gown, and attends the city’s most elite brothel, the Silver Chalice.

Oliver Bedford, the imposing Earl of Drake, is only at the Silver Chalice to appease his debauched friends—until he spots Lady Scarlet. She’s refreshing…and a complete mystery. Certain she’s a lady in disguise, Oliver is determined to learn her identity, but she eludes him at every turn.

The night with Oliver was unforgettable. But when he arrives at her employer’s home, she’s horrified to discover her lover is the Earl of Drake, the son of the man responsible for her father’s death and subsequent family ruin. And that he’s there to court her young charge.

Oliver never had any interest in the debutante, but he is drawn to her chaperone—a woman he soon realizes is his Lady Scarlet. Now that he’s found her, she claims she wants nothing to do with him, even though her kisses say otherwise. Fortunately, Oliver is not one to give up when he finds something he wants…and he wants Ana. In his bed, and in his life. Forever. But first, he must persuade her to trust him—and to believe that one wild, passionate night can turn into forever.

3–What do you love about the setting of your book?

I love writing in the Regency period

4–How did your heroine surprise you?

She’s bold and determined to find a bit of happiness for herself

5–Why will readers love your hero?

He’s a duty-bound earl with a big heart. He’s a pugilist. He also likes stargazing.

6–What was one of your biggest challenges while writing this book (spoiler-free, of course!)?

Writing a diverse heroine posed challenges and I used my own family background when I wrote about the heroine. It was rewarding and challenging at the same time.

7–Do you look forward to or do you dread the revision process?

Both. I like writing the first draft and then going back and layering in detail and emotion.

8–What’s your favorite snack to have on hand while writing?

Chocolate covered almonds

9–Where would you go for an ideal writer’s retreat?

Cape May, New Jersey. I love the Jersey shore and I find the ocean relaxing.

10–What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve received?

Give yourself permission to write the first draft without going back and editing every page.

11–Who is the fictional character you want to hang out with the most? (anyone in literature!)

Elizabeth Bennett from Jane Austen’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

12–What’s one of your earliest book memories?

Cinderella. The romance!

13–If you had to write in a different genre, what would it be and why?

Cozy mystery. I write the diverse Kebab Kitchen cozy mystery series as Tina Kashian.

14–What song will automatically put you in a good mood?

Anything by Taylor Swift; and “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves.

15–What is your favorite way to practice self-care?

Lap swimming and watching movies with my two girls

16–What can you eat and never get sick of?

Chocolate, hummus, and pita

17–Will you share a favorite, recent-ish book you recommend?

I just reread a classic historical romance again. THE BRIDE by Julie Garwood

18–Do you have any hobbies?

Cooking

19–Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Night owl, but I have to be an early bird for the day job

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I’m working on the second book in my Daring Ladies historical romance series featuring another diverse heroine
