1–What is the title of your latest release? SHIELDING THE INNOCENT TARGET 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A single mom witnesses a murder and must trust a lone wolf US Marshal to get her and her son safely into Witness Protection, but the assassin is hot on their trail. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? This is the fourth book in my US Marshals series with marshals from Texas. But I wanted my marshal to have to bring in a witness from Florida. It should have been an easy assignment. Put the mom and child on a plane and take them to Texas where they would enter WitSec. But problems arise and the trio, along with the child’s therapy dog, a golden retriever, must now drive across states. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes, I really enjoyed both Paige and Lucas. Lucas has such a big heart that he hides behind a loner vibe. It was fun digging deep to figure out what made him tick. And I would definitely like to have coffee with Paige and discuss life and love and faith. But I tend…
Music is integral to my story telling and these five songs really encompass THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO EMBER so perfectly. “Come and Get Your Love” – Redbone Redbone is a classic Native rock band, and this song encompasses summer love and summer Native love. It’s so fun and was my north star while drafting. When I felt lost or that the project felt too big, I’d put this song on and dance and get back into the drafting headspace. “Little Lies” – Fleetwood Mac Ember tells a lot of little white lies and if this is not the song for that then I don’t know what is. It’s a catchy, fun song. “Sledgehammer” – Peter Gabriel When readers get to chapter 25 this song will make sense. This song is entirely about sex and Danuwoa loves Peter Gabriel. “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” – Taylor Swift I love Taylor Swift and so does Danuwoa’s sister Walela. It’s a song about forbidden love, and Ember and Danuwoa’s relationship is forbidden. “In Your Eyes” – Peter Gabriel When readers get to the end of The Truth According to Ember, IYKYK, this song is vital. THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO EMBER by Danica Nava A…
What is the title of your latest release? ALL MONEY AIN’T GOOD MONEY 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Jinx Curry is the kick-ass 70s-like private detective John Shaft in heels. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I was born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio. I purchased my first home in Forest Park, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati at 27. Since 2013, I’ve lived in the Metro-Atlanta area. So, All Money Ain’t Good Money setting is here. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. Jinx is fun and witty. As a former soldier, I’d be in a fox hole with her any day. Besides, Jinx carries a Glock. So, I would always feel safe hanging out with her. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Fun, Fearless, Female 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned how to listen while writing dialogue. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? At first, I would edit the book as I drafted it, but I discovered that process detracted from my word count production. So, I wrote two chapters at a time…
It’s always interesting to me how a story takes shape. Interviewers always ask me where I get my ideas and it’s rarely a simple answer. It’s rather like making a cake. You take flour, sugar, eggs, milk, flavoring, whisk them all together and something delicious is baked. That’s the way it is with my stories. I get a snippet of inspiration from here, and idea from there, a person I’ve wanted to spend time with and voila, I have my story. Or perhaps it’s more like creating a baby. It starts with the tiniest of seeds. It attaches itself, won’t go away, and starts to grow. I work and nourish it. It takes its time and the story won’t come until it’s ready to go ahead. And then, after several months, it is born. The Rose Arbor was conceived when I read an article a few years ago about the village of Tyneham on the south coast of England. It was one of the villages requisitioned by the British military during WWII to use to practice invasion tactics. One day in 1943 the military arrived at Tydeham and told the occupants they had three weeks to leave their homes. Trucks…
1–What is the title of your latest release? HOMECOMING QUEEN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Once her high school’s homecoming queen, young Anika Raven faces the challenge of a lifetime. She must rescue her little sister from a neglectful family as the hurricane of a century barrels toward her hometown of Miranda, Texas. Time is of the essence, but the deadly storm is not her biggest problem. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Miranda is a fictional town loosely based on my hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Homecoming Queen is my love song to South Texas, a fascinating region of the country with a rich and unique culture few understand. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. Anika Raven is a fascinating protagonist with multi-layered depth and a knack for surprise. She represents an amalgamation of those who never cease to amaze me with their true humanity (good and bad) and ability to overcome incredible adversity. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Resilient, imperfect, and beautiful (in every sense of the word). 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned during my research…
1–What is the title of your latest release? MY MOTHER CURSED MY NAME 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In life, Olvido Olivares constantly clashed with her carefree daughter, Angustias, who left Olvido’s home in search of her own after becoming pregnant at the age of sixteen. Ten years later, Angustia’s daughter, Felicitas, finally meets her estranged grandmother and is terribly disappointed when Olvido is nothing like a grandmother should be. She is strict, cold, and…dead. Now, Olvido is convinced the only way her spirit will cross over is if her body is taken back to Mexico, her true home, but motivating her family to fulfill this wish will not be easy. Felicitas, the only person who can see and hear Olvido, is ready to retaliate for a decade of resentment, and Angustias, grief-stricken and unaware of her daughter’s gift, is desperate to escape all reminders of Olvido once again. To save themselves and each other, the Olivares family will be forced to listen to one another, work to overcome generations’ worth of well-intentioned mistakes and learn the true definition of home. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I write about what…
1–What is the title of your latest release? COUNTESS OF STARS, Book 2 in my Struck By Lightning series. 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Desperate to stay near her motherless little brothers, Lady Grace Elliot weds Lucien Harcourt, a ruthless Viscount with a heart encased in ice. She opens his eyes to a world he’s never seen and challenges everything he believes about himself. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Victorian London was the perfect setting. So much was going on in 1848. It was the year of revolution across all Europe and there were riots in England. People were afraid the rebellions would spread. (And there were plenty of reasons the lower classes were angry). I wanted to show the contrast between the Seven Dials and Mayfair, and that once Lucien actual sees and comes to know a little flower seller and her family, his perspective changed. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I’d love to hang out with my heroine, Lady Grace Elliot. She shares my love of family, my longing to fight to make the world a better place for children, and my passion…

Chaptstick by COIN – For reasons I still haven’t determined, this song totally embodies the opening scene of NAME YOUR PRICE to me. Maybe it’s the funky guitar riff, maybe it’s the playful intimacy in wanting to taste someone’s chapstick, or the way Chase Lawrence sings, “She’s a real livewire . . . I think I love her.” Or maybe it’s the way I can see Chuck walking down the sidewalk to the beat of this song, full of Hollywood swagger but still a big softie underneath. Whatever the reason, it would make the perfect soundtrack to the epic breakup that sets the story in motion. Style (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift – I’ve learned as a romance author to always have an answer prepared, because you will be asked what Taylor Swift song represents in your book. Hands-down, NAME YOUR PRICE is Style. This song also happens to be one of my favorite Taylor songs. That instantly identifiable guitar riff, the dance moves from the Eras Tour, the way she belts “Take me home!” at the climax. This song has all the elements of a perfect pop hit. “And when we go crashing down, we come back every…
