Book Title: TWISTED DESIRES (Book 4 of Loving Monsters) Name: Kanaloa the Kraken Where do you live? I call Lake Superior my home. It’s the largest freshwater lake in the world and is bordered by the countries of Canada and the United States of America. Though I once lived in the deep open seas nearest to the island mortals now call Hawaii, I’ve made this personal territory. Mortals feel safe spending their leisure hours here, and the country is beautiful. It is my hope that being here will increase my chances of successfully finding a mate. What do you find is the biggest challenge in relationships? Finding a woman capable of bearing my offspring. My opportunities for meeting mates are limited and introductions are a wicked beast to wrangle. I’ve had women scream themselves to death at the mere sight of my monstrous beauty, while others have just abandoned the mortal coil upon the realization that monsters exist. And then, even if a potential mate gets past the shock of my lovely tentacles, there’s the problem of whether or not they are strong enough to actually survive birthing a monster. It’s a tall order, and in all my…

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE PARIS MYSTERY 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A sexy Agatha Christie-style mystery set in the glamour of pre-war Paris. Read with Champagne. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I wanted it to be in that naïve, heady time between the wars in Paris when the food, the fashion and the parties were all about giddy decadence. It was my escape from the reality of two years lockdown. 4–Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life? She’s based on one of my best friends—a foreign correspondent—so absolutely! 5–What are three words that describe your sleuth? Smart and intuitive 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? That it’s tricky writing a tight mystery in one timeline. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Bit of both. I’m not entirely sure whodunnit until I get to the end, which requires rewriting sometimes! 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? Dinner with friends at a great wine bar with an innovative menu. 9–Describe your writing space/office! Currently it’s at our dining…
Book Title: BENEATH DARK WATERS Character Name: Val Sorensen How would you describe your family or your childhood? We were happy once. Our parents were forgetful and were busy working to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table, but if we needed them, they were there. Then, anyway. Now, not so much. Back when we were kids, my twin brother Ivan and I would do all the normal kid things, and I was a tomboy for sure. We climbed trees and played football. We lived in Minnesota until I was ten, when my father got a job teaching university in New Orleans. It was quite a culture shock! But we were still happy. Ivan and I would babysit our little sister Sylvi until our parents got home from work and sometimes even afterward. I complained sometimes, but it wasn’t really a burden. I loved Sylvi then. I kind of raised her. So does that make her problems—and her crimes—my fault? What was your greatest talent? I play the piano and sing—when I’m not playing roller derby with the New Orleans QuarterMasters. My derby name is Val-killer-rie. Significant other? A few in the past. …
Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Valerie Fraser Luesse! Writes: Hello, there! I’m excited for the opportunity to introduce myself. I love tapping into my years as a travel writer for Southern Living magazine to really take readers deep into a Southern setting, whether that’s rural Alabama, a remote Louisiana bayou town, or a long, rambling coastal highway to Key West. I want you to forget where you are and travel with me into the fictional worlds of my characters, which are always rooted in the real South, a place I know and love and find endlessly fascinating. My latest novel, Letters from My Sister (Revell, August 2023) turns back the clock to the early 20th century. Sisters Emmy and Callie Bullock are living a privileged life as the only daughters of a wealthy Alabama cotton farmer when their well-ordered household gets turned upside down by the arrival of Lily McGee, granddaughter of the Bullocks’ trusted housekeeper. Arrestingly beautiful, Lily quickly – and innocently – draws the wrong kind…

1–What is the title of your latest release? WHO WE ARE NOW 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? It’s 2006 and Rachel, Clarissa, Dev, and Nate are best friends, seniors on the eve of their college graduation. Bound to one another as they are, they imagine their closeness will last forever—but things change as they take their first steps away from one another and into adulthood. Each year is told from one character’s point of view, as these four friends feel their twenties and thirties flying by — and suddenly small moments fast become regrets or unexpected boons, decisions they’ll spend years wishing they could undo and choices that come to define them. As the foursome endure professional setbacks, deep loss, and creative success, fortunes shift and friendships strain—and it will take a tragic turn of events to bring them together again. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I followed the “write what you know” maxim in this book: I chose Northwestern University as the first setting because that’s where I went to school, and it was fun for me to revisit. I chose New York as the second setting because it’s…
1–What is the title of your latest release? HOW TO CARE FOR A HUMAN GIRL 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Two estranged sisters, Jada and Maddy, come together again to deal with simultaneous unplanned pregnancies in the wake of their mother’s death. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? It originally took place in Houston, which was where I was living when I began writing it. But it soon became clear that I needed to set the book in my home state of Pennsylvania because there was no place I knew better. Parts of the story take place in Pittsburgh, while other parts take place in an assortment of rural locations throughout western and central PA. This tension between urban and rural—and their associated politics—creates some friction for the characters in the book. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I would definitely hang out with Jada, even if she would probably be lost in her own thoughts most of the time. I’m not sure I’d hang out with Maddy socially. She’s quite a bit younger than me, and she’s…a lot. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?…
1–What is the title of your latest release? THE BLONDE IDENTITY 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? It’s about a woman who wakes up with amnesia and everybody thinks she’s a rogue spy on the run from the CIA—but she’s not. She’s a rogue spy’s identical twin sister. Her only hope is the super-hot, super grumpy operative who is the only person who realizes that she’s not the spy they’re looking for (but she just might be the woman that he needs…) 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Years ago, a scene popped into my head, fully formed: a woman was lying in the snow, staring up at the lights of the Eiffel Tower, and a man was standing over her, shouting, “Get up, Alex! Run!” But there was just one problem: she wasn’t Alex. No matter how many things about the story changed, that scene stayed exactly the same. So it wasn’t so much that I chose Europe. It was more like Europe chose me! Which makes sense. It really is spy catnip, with so many great potential set pieces. I had a blast with it, and the setting became a…
