Nick Cutter and Andrew F. Sullivan | Conversations in Character with Handyman Hank
Author Guest / August 10, 2023

Book Title: THE HANDYMAN METHOD Character Name: Handyman Hank   How would you describe your family or your childhood? Oh, well now, I’d say I don’t have so much in the way of family or a childhood, such as your kind would see it. I kinda gave birth to myself, best as I can recall.   What was your greatest talent? I like to think I help men find their special place in the world. I like to take on apprentices, and sometimes that apprenticeship can last a long time … and boy howdy, when I say long, I do mean looooooong.   Significant other? Womenfolk bring nothing but trouble. They got thoughts coming into their heads a god-fearing fella can’t even reckon with.   Biggest challenge in relationships? I tend to exhaust people, I guess. Plum tucker ‘em out. Then they tend to linger around like a bad smell. I can’t get rid of ‘em!   Where do you live? Under you, just maybe!   Do you have any enemies? Nope. Just friends I haven’t met yet.   How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly…

Leslie O’Sullivan | Conversations in Character with Beast aka Beatrice Sharpe
Author Guest / August 10, 2023

Book Title: CRIMSON MELODIES, Book Four of Rockin’ Fairy Tales Character Name: Beast aka Beatrice Sharpe   How would you describe your family or your childhood? I once considered the members of our band, B&B+3, as my family before I was cursed. Now, my closest friends are a quartet of legendary Hollywood ghosts with attitudes and flair.   What was your greatest talent? Before the nasty enchantress, Tressa Divine, slapped the curse on me, as Beatrice, I’d won awards for my song lyrics, and was a decent singer. Even though my talons get in the way, I’m still able to write, but the singing – nope, not with these beastly, harpy vocal cords.   Significant other? My heart will always belong to Benedict Boyd, the lead singer/songwriter of B&B+3.   Where do you live? I’m banished to the top floor library and rooftop of an iconic haunted Hollywood hotel.   Do you have any enemies? The fiends, calling themselves Dark Vinyl Artists, who I’d love to sink my talons into, are my captors and tormentors.   How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in…

J.L. Delavega | Author-Reader Match: ASH LIKE VENGEANCE
Author Guest / August 10, 2023

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match: where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present J.L. Delavega!   Writes: Dark-fantasy meets feminist weird western. Pray to the God of Mercy, the Revere women ride again in ASH LIKE VENGEANCE, the sequel to SMOKE AND OTHER STORMS. After lamenting the disgraceful lack of non-cliche female characters in westerns, as well as introverted characters whose introversion isn’t treated as a flaw, I decided to write the books I’d been searching for my whole life. The Revere Trilogy is my love letter to grandmothers, sisters, independence, and female strength in all its forms. Welcome to the Rim.   About: Aquarius – Restless desert spirit and lost half my soul in an unfortunate detour. ( If you’ve seen it, let me know. ) I believe in satisfying, logical endings, and chosen family always. Looking for readers who feel the same. If you like cats – I have two black ones with vampire teeth– and things with satisfying textures, we will get along just fine. If I show you to one of my favorite…

Lauren J.A. Bear | The Medusa Myth as Told By the Sisters Who Were Cursed by Her Side
Author Guest / August 10, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? MEDUSA’S SISTERS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? It’s the Medusa myth as told by the sisters who were cursed by her side, from their birth to Perseus and beyond. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Because I wanted to maintain strong ties to the foundational myth, I was a bit constricted on where I could physically place the characters. However, I did add a sojourn in ancient Thebes that I think readers will enjoy! 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely! There are two protagonists to this story, Stheno and Euryale. Stheno is the oldest sister, and she most closely resembles how I present myself to the world but Euryale, the problematic middle sister, is who I identify with on the inside. Euryale is the friend you go to bars with; Stheno is who you call when you’re in jail! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Stheno: loyal, selfless, practical. Euryale: emotional, complicated, driven. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? In ancient Greece, brothels would identify themselves with a secret code – a scallop shell….

Liz Johnson | Kelsey Sets Out to Save Her Beloved Community Theater and Her Job
Author Guest / August 9, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? SUMMER IN THE SPOTLIGHT 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? After a hurricane destroys the town landmark, Kelsey Ahern sets out to save her beloved community theater—and her job. But as she draws her friend Levi Ross into her plans for a benefit show, she discovers there’s more to him than she expected and God’s plans for their future are so much more important than their pasts. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Prince Edward Island, Canada, is my favorite place in the world. The tiny village of Victoria by the Sea on the south shore is perfectly picturesque and filled with wonderful characters. It’s the ideal setting for this series. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes! Kelsey Ahern and I would chat musical theater for hours. And I’m sure she would sing along to musical soundtracks with me. She reminds me a lot of my nieces, who are some of my favorite people on the planet. And I’d love to hang out with Levi Ross—but I think it would be a very one-sided conversation. 5–What are three words…

Carla Simpson | Ghostly Images, Levitating Objects, and a Beautiful Assistant Who Disappears
Author Guest / August 9, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? DEADLY ILLUSION – Mikaela Forsythe and Angus Brodie Murder Mystery Book 4 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Ghostly images that appear and float across the stage, objects that levitate into the air, and a beautiful assistant who disappears inside a glass box.  The case is no sleight of hand, but a series of dangerous illusions meant to deceive both Mikaela and Brodie, and perhaps make them both disappear for good, while the murderer goes about his deadly scheme. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? That’s easy since the series is set in late 19th century London; however, they will be traveling in this book and in Book 5 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Oh yes, particularly since she is someone very real. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Strong-willed (I count that as one), stubborn, persistent (like a bulldog with a bone) 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? The art of disappearing goes back centuries with very creative methods. Fascinating. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I…

Laura Childs | Theodosia on the Trail of a Murderous Phony Bee Keeper
Author Guest / August 9, 2023

What is the title of your latest release? The books is HONEY DROP DEAD. It’s number 26 in my Tea Shop Mystery series.   What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Theodosia’s elegant Honey Bee Tea is set in Charleston’s Petigru Park amidst native grasses and a bee keeping project. But when a phony bee keeper sprays toxic smoke at guests and shoots local politician Osgood Claxton III, the party erupts in chaos. Holly Burns, the gallery owner who commissioned the tea, is in shock – a man is dead, guests injured, her paintings in tatters. When police don’t have a clue, when old-line politicos don’t want questions asked, Holly begs Theodosia to run a shadow investigation and help restore her gallery’s good name.   How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Lucky me, I’m writing Tea Shop Mysteries and there’s an actual tea plantation just outside Charleston, SC. Besides, how could I not set my series in this romantic city with its surging harbor, old mansions, hidden walkways, and haunted graveyards?   Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I’d hang out with Theodosia in a heartbeat. This is a…

Mhairi McFarlane | Feeling Exposed and Finding Some Unexpected Support
Author Guest / August 8, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? BETWEEN US   2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A woman’s screenwriter partner’s new show depicts a man cheating, relentlessly. She always thought he was faithful but when she recognizes a real secret from her past on the television show…could the infidelity be taken from his?   3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I have a huge crush on Manchester in England – it was my university city – and I love it as setting for romantic comedies. It’s big, exciting, atmospheric but distinctly northern and less cliched than London. Give me imposing Victorian buildings, rain, and bars that serve good Negronis, and I am happy.   4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Oh definitely. I love Roisin. She’s sparky but not intimidatingly so, and as they say in the book, got a lot of presence about her in a non ego ridden way.   5–What are three words that describe your hero? Ooooh…. Lighthearted. Secretive. Warm.   6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? That if you’re writing a Did He Didn’t He (or indeed any story with…

Noelle Crooks | The Devil Wears Prada for the Digital Age
Author Guest / August 8, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? UNDER THE INFLUENCE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? It’s “The Devil Wears Prada” for the digital age. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The story starts in New York City, but I knew I wanted the majority of the story to take place in a smaller city that felt vastly different for the main character, Harper. I chose Nashville because I thought it was the perfect setting for our self-help influencer, Charlotte Green, to really feel like a big fish in a small pond. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely, as long as she promises to bring some of her mom’s cookies! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Ambitious, optimistic, and attentive. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned a lot about myself! As a debut author, I went through so many emotions of excitement, fear, and self-doubt. I really learned how to cope with the feelings of uncertainty and how to build more confidence in my work and myself. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?…

Sara DiVello | Author-Reader Match: BROADWAY BUTTERFLY
Author Guest / August 7, 2023

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Sara DiVello!   Writes: True Crime Thrillers.   About: BROADWAY BUTTERFLY is true story of the murder of Dot King, a scandalous flapper in 1923 New York City, and the ramifications that ripple from the gangster underworld all the way up to the White House.   I’m a true-crime junkie—I listen to podcasts, watch documentaries, and love going down the research rabbit hole afterwards. I’m #TeamTwain! I think Mark Twain was right: truth IS stranger than fiction, and I love leaning into that in writing true stories. At the same time, I love the page-turning readability of mysteries and thrillers. I tried to combine the two best parts of these in my book! I grew up reading Nancy Drew, (anyone relate?). When I’m not reading or writing, I love to cook, eat, and go for long walks with my husband and our rescue mutt, Pelu.   What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match: Calling true-crime junkies, mystery and thriller fans, and historical/Roaring…
