Kate McMurray | Author-Reader Match: WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN

December 7, 2021

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors as a reader you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Kate McMurray!

Writes:

WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN is a contemporary romance, second in a series set at a cat café in Brooklyn, New York. In this book, the cat café’s events manager, Paige takes center stage. Paige is an event planner by training, a classic type A who never met a spreadsheet she didn’t like. One night, she volunteers for a cat rescue organization and meets Josh, a cute lawyer with a biting sense of humor. They get along so well, neither wants the night to end, so it… doesn’t. But in the light of the next morning, Paige puts together that Josh is her best friend’s brother. Whoops!

About:

I live in a studio apartment in New York City with a bossy cat and so many books that I secretly think they’re mating like Tribbles. I like museums and baseball and show tunes and indie bookstores and karaoke—I am stoked that Broadway is back and hope to go to a show soon—and I think New York is the greatest city in the world.

What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:

Fans of good love stories and snappy dialogues. Fans of characters who are good at their jobs, but less good at relationships. Must love cats (and dogs)!

What to expect if we’re compatible:

  • Funny dialogue
  • Too many pop culture references
  • New York City
  • Heroes you want to hug
  • Sexy times

Whitman Street Cat Cafe #2

What the Cat Dragged In

“McMurray’s love scenes are crackling!”—Entertainment Weekly

Set in Brooklyn (with a small-town feel in the big city), this cat café romantic comedy has tropes readers will adore:

  • Best friend’s brother romance
  • Forbidden romance (can’t let his sister/my best friend find out!)
  • Millennial angst (my love life is a hot mess)
  • Adorable rescue cats in a cozy Brooklyn café

When Paige Danvers isn’t managing events for the Whitman Street Cat Café, she is busy navigating dating disasters as a single woman in Brooklyn. Urged by her boss and best friend Lauren to find a distraction from ineffectual dating apps, Paige volunteers with a cat rescue organization, where she actually meets a guy with some real relationship potential.

Recent law school grad Josh Harlow is putting in long hours at a Manhattan law firm as he gets over a messy breakup. When his boss requires him to do some volunteer work, Josh’s sister sets him up to help capture feral cats. Partnered with Paige, Josh is insistently drawn to the dynamic event planner and sparks between them fly.

One problem: after a steamy night together, Paige discovers Josh is Lauren’s brother and dating him would be a spectacularly awful idea. Particularly considering Paige’s track record. They’re both in too deep to walk away—but if they let the cat out of the bag, it’s going to wreak havoc with friends, family, and jobs alike.

Praise for Kate McMurray:
“McMurray offers up some irresistible animal magnetism in this quirky romance…Colorful locals and the leads’ convincing chemistry give this romance its sizzle, but it’s the four-legged costars that steal the show. Animal lovers are sure to be charmed.”—Publishers Weekly on Like Cats and Dogs
