Fresh FIction Box Not To Miss

Monthly THANK YOU to Sara

July 22, 2005

Once again we all met at Sara’s and gathered around her dining room table for food, drink, and of course conversation. The guest Lois Greiman was very nice to speak with, and even had questions for all of us. Of course, I had to remind everyone I like women’s fiction, and don’t mind if a book doesn’t have a happy ending. I’m the oddball…the rest of the group has to have the HEA.

Ok..I’ve been on a whirlwind of travel. Often I can read while I travel, and accomplish a lot of good reading, but this trip I was busy playing with my anniversary gift of a new laptop instead. Yes, it could be used to read e-books, but I didn’t.

So now to the good stuff…what I’ve read. Since my last update I have read Unzipped by Lois Greiman. It’s her debut mystery, and was an enjoyable read. It was the first book in what promises to be an entertaining series. I also read Lakeside Cottage by Susan Wiggs and author who I’m fast beginning to really enjoy. Lakeside Cottage does have romance in it, but I would consider it more women’s fiction. Lakeside Cottage is one of my favorite reads this month, and I recommend it.

Can’t remember what I’ve mentioned having read already. I did read Navy Baby by Debbie Macomber. Started that on the ride home from Houston, and would have gotten really close to finishing it, but Mike decided I needed to drive, and he frowns on my driving and reading at the same time.

I read Miracle by Danielle Steel. This is one of her shorter in both height and length books. I’m such a sucker I guess because I can remember cutting my romance teeth on Steel, and thus still feel some sort of odd loyalty to continue reading her. I don’t read her as compulsively as I once did, but her books still find their way into my pile. I did find Miracle to be a bit better than the last one I read, and not nearly as repetitive.

I finished First Kiss by Kylie Adams today. This was a really light fluff read that just didn’t require a great deal of brain power. It’s the second book in The Bridesmaid Chronicle series, and I hope the next one is better. I enjoyed the first, and could feel some chemistry between the h/h, but didn’t quite feel it in First Kiss.

Now, I’m going to start Conspiracy in Death by J.D. Robb. I’m just working my way through the series. I have two friends with whom I started to read the series. The one friend is only 2 books ahead of me in reading, but the other has read them all. She was totally hooked and read them all back to back until she was current, and she told me today that her new book is soon to be arriving via Amazon.

Ok…I’ve chatted enough. Hope everyone is reading something great!

Sandi
