Sarah L. Hudson Interview – RomComs, Elvis, and Alphaholes

March 1, 2022

How would you describe the dynamic between the two main characters in A LITTLE MOORE ACTION?

Chase Moore seems like your typical playful playboy which, at first, rankles Campbell King, who is in New York for work and redemption. So there is a give and take between the two main characters that screams attraction, but Bell is set on fighting it. Chase… not so much.

Your book is described as a rom-com. Do you enjoy reading and watching rom-coms as well as writing them? I ask because a few writers have said that what they like to read and what they like to write isn’t always the same thing.

Rom-Coms are my bread and butter. To read and to watch. I’ve been told I’m too empathetic, so if I watch or read something angsty, I’m a drama llama for days. Don’t even get me started when I lost a whole night’s sleep after a particular episode of Game of Thrones and couldn’t stop crying (it was also the last episode that I watched).

So it’s better for everyone that I like to entertain myself with things that make me happy.

Though I do love a good drama-filled BL manga (it’s my secret/not so secret guilty pleasure).

Your female protagonist, Campbell King, has an “Elvis obsession”. Is that something you share with your character? If not, who are some of your favorite singers and musicians?

I love almost every genre of music (except for screaming death metal and slap-your-bitch-up rap). Including Elvis, though I wouldn’t say it’s an obsession.

Though, when I was in fifth grade and Hush Puppies were the shoe to wear (did I just date myself?), I had a baby blue pair.
Which made me think I was cool (I was not). So cool that I got up on stage for the talent show and lip-synced Blue Suede Shoes – complete with Elvis hip-thrusting dance moves.

The beauty of Elvis was lost on my fellow twelve-year-olds.

What’s your favorite romance trope to read or to write? I enjoy friends-to-lovers.

This is hard. Cause I don’t usually start off with a trope in my head. It’s always a funny moment. I basically build my romances off a SNL-like sketch in my head. Haha
I love reading enemies to lovers (the funny kind) but I think my favorite is insta-lust. I love that idea of a guy or girl just KNOWING at first glance that the other person is gonna change their life (and their bedroom).

How would you describe the male characters you write about? There’s been some discussion in online book groups about alpha heroes versus “alpha-holes”. Meaning that a male hero can be a strong dude without coming across as condescending or aggressive. I always use the examples for non-alphaholes as Jennifer Ashley’s “Shifters Unbound” guys or Marie Harte’s blue collar hotties.

*side note – love the blue-collar hottie books

I love them both, the Alpha and the Alpha-holes. IF they’re written correctly.

I’m not into the bully-romance, where I find the punishment (how the guy ‘bullies’ the girl) doesn’t fit the crime kind of thing.

But a grumpy, jerk of a man who will break rules and bones to protect the woman he loves – that’s some hot sauce right there.

I’d say my guys are strong men. Alphas in their field. They’re confident in what they do, but maybe not when it comes to love. I don’t think I’ve ever written an Alpha-hole before. *ponders if I should*

A LITTLE MOORE ACTION by Sarah L. Hudson

A Little Moore Action

What happens when a New York City playboy, a Southern spitfire, and a hairless cat walk into a coffee shop?
Burnt man-nipples, for starters.

Self-made mogul Chase Moore is a charming hound dog with a hairless cat and a family business to save. He was fine being the spare to the heir of the family’s luxury department store empire until the billion-dollar business threatened to go belly-up. Now Chase will need more than his rakish good looks to fight his father for control.

Powerhouse marketing guru Campbell King is a hardheaded woman with a chip on her shoulder in the shape of the New York City skyline. After being chewed up and spit out by the city that never sleeps, Campbell returned to Texas and launched her own company. When her phone rings, and the sexy voice on the other end asks her to help save his swanky store in Manhattan, she seizes the chance to redeem herself.

When the sexy redhead from Texas with an Elvis obsession runs into her new boss, they both find themselves all shook up. And for the first time in her life, Campbell may need a little less conversation and a whole lot Moore action.

A Little Moore Action is a standalone, first-in-series, full-length contemporary rom-com that will melt your panties as well as your heart.
