But it couldn’t have been Jennifer. She died twelve years ago… Once out of the hospital, Bentz begins to see Jennifer everywhere, haunting and taunting him, then vanishing without a trace. Could she still be alive? But it was Bentz who identified Jennifer’s body after her horrible car wreck, and there had been no question in his mind that it was her crumpled form behind the wheel, her clothes, her wedding ring. I never intended to write a series of connected books. I was always a stand alone girl. Well, okay, there were a few books in my old series romance novels days that were connected, but for the most part I started each book with new characters and a new setting. Fresh start–fresh mind and all that. Then, about ten or twelve years ago all that changed. I wrote HOT BLOODED with the idea of a companion book, COLD BLOODED in the back of my mind. My editor liked the detectives of the New Orleans Police Department in the first book so well he suggested we go for the second. Okay, no problem. I remembered most of book one and had enough notes to make certain the second novel made sense, that each character looked the same, was true to him/herself, lived in the same house, d rove the same car and so on and so forth. Well, I’m kind of excited. My newest book, UNSEEN, a thriller, debuted on March 31st. UNSEEN is my first solo effort as a romantic-suspense writer and it’s definitely a wild and twisted tale. A real departure from the mystery novels I’ve been writing. (And to those loyal fans who’ve contacted me in fear that I’ve abandoned Jane, Dwayne, The Binkster and the rest of the gang from the Jane Kelly mystery series: They’ll be back, I swear! ) So, how did UNSEEN come to be? Well, a long time ago, in a galaxy far,far away, I read an article in Time Magazine about how young mothers were making money writing romance novels. I told my sister, fellow writer Lisa Jackson, about the article and, as young mothers ourselves, we both sat down and started writing, writing, writing. It’s how both of our careers began. Now, I’m a grandmother. A grandmother! Yikes, rewind. That happened fast! I may need to digress a moment. . . . Lisa Jackson | The Real Dirt on LEFT TO DIE
Uncategorized / July 29, 2008

People ask me why I decided to set a new series in Montana. After all, I’ve pretty much settled into New Orleans. Well, the truth of the matter was that I wanted a new, fresh extremely different locale for LEFT TO DIE and the books that follow in the series. I figured a small podunk fictional town like Grizzly Falls was nearly a one-eighty in atmosphere from the French Quarter or Garden District of the Crescent City. I wanted away from the southern bayous and into the mountains of the west. What I didn’t expect was the new characters and how I’d come to love them. I’m a small town girl at heart–born and raised in a tiny timber town in Oregon–and so the back-woodsy rural part was natural. But the characters, wow. First of all the heroine, Jillian Rivers is on the warpath, trying to find out if her first husband, the one whom she thought died in the jungles of South American, the jerk who left her holding the bag when he disappeared and owed tons of investors money, might be alive. Then there’s the hero, Zane MacGregor, a loner’s loner, sexy as hell and once charged with…
