Sandi Shilhanek | A Perfect Day
Sundays with Sandi / July 11, 2010

What a week it’s been! Tuesday I got together with a small group of people from the DFW Tea Readers group, and had a wonderful dinner of barbecued chicken, baked beans, deviled eggs, pasta salad, green salad, and not only one cake, but two! We also had a lively conversation with author Annette Blair, who writes, not only romance, but also mysteries. I didn’t realize that, so Wednesday sent me to Barnes and Nobel in an effort to attain one or two of her mysteries by using my gift card I won from author Michele Bardsley (who can be seen in November at Readers ‘n’ Ritas.) Saturday had me again meeting the DFW TeaReaders group for a fun and lively tea. Unfortunately we were not the only people in the tea room, and when I went to the restroom I got the impression that one of the elderly ladies from the other group wasn’t really happy about how much fun we were having. See when we start having fun we tend to forget that there are others around, and we tend to get a bit loud. We’re not rude loud, just fun loving loud, and if you’re ever in the…

Sandi Shilhanek | Fabulous Fabulous….Boas And Tiaras Tea
Guests , Sundays with Sandi / June 13, 2010

Yesterday was the DFW TeaReaders annual Boas and Tiaras tea. It’s the one time of the year that we try to dress a bit for tea, and show our fabulous selves with wonderful tiaras and colorful boas. Last year I had to miss the event because of family obligations, but this year I was lucky enough to attend! As usual the food and fellowship were divine! If there’s a downside to this event it’s that it’s so big it’s hard to know where to sit, and who to socialize with. I know I missed meeting several newcomers to our events, and I really hope that they return often so I can get to know them. This year was a bit different I believe in that we had a raffle drawing. We had very generous authors who donated great prizes. Amongst the authors donating were Dakota Cassidy, Michele Bardsley, Rosemary Clement-Moore, Dianna Love, Claire Avery and Jaye Wells. If I missed an author donation I’m terribly sorry and know it was greatly appreciated. Did I mention that I was lucky enough to win one of the baskets donated by Michelle, and got a galley of her new book, Cross Your Heart?…

Michele Bardsley | Demons Are A Heroine’s Best Friend
Uncategorized / January 6, 2010

In my January release, COME HELL OR HIGH WATER, Book 6 in the Broken Heart series, single mother, vampire, and demon hunter Phoebe Allen makes an itty bitty mistake. Okay. A big mistake. She lets lust get in the way of her common sense and gets horizontal with sexy Scottish fairy Connor Ballard. Except he’s only half fairy … and you know, half-demon. Now, instead of just indulging in a delicious encounter with a yummy Scotsman, she ends up married for a hundred years to the very kind of creature she’s usually fighting. Sara Reyes | Author + Books + Video = Excitement?
Candace Havens , Saturdays with Sara / August 29, 2009

I always tell people — find something to do that connects with your passion in life and you’ll be successful! And the rule has proved itself over and over again. My passion is books and reading. My talent, if it can labeled, is remembering what I’ve read and making connections. I connect readers with books. If I know someone likes a certain type of book: say historical with lots of sexual tension but with emotion, I’ll say try Mary Balogh or Mary Jo Putney or Loretta Chase. Because those authors will make you weep, laugh and sigh. If someone likes gritty urban fantasy I point them to Kim Harrison or Kelley Armstrong because you’ll find a fast paced action packed adventure in a world that is familiar and yet, not. Well, you get my drift. I’m fortunate as I read fast and I’ve read steadily for a loooong time! Fun Books You Should Get! But I’ve also been able to meet authors, and authors are wonderful people, especially after you get them to open up about their work. Then you can see the passion in their eyes and the emotion in their voice as they tell me about the twists…

I mean, it’s not like the price of gas is cutting into our books budget! Uh huh, so I’m cutting out food…and being on the WW, it’s hard, especially with all the good healthy and in season fruits and veggies. It just means less stops at the Cheesecake Factory next to the Lincoln Park Barnes and Noble! (SORRY, Ellen!!) Rhys Bowen at Lincoln Park BNOriginally uploaded by freshfiction First up our double hitter night: Rhys Bowen, author of the Lady Georgie mystery series set in England in the 1930s. Poor Georgie! She’s been told by the Queen she’s to put up the latest German princess they’re trying to marry off in England and you can’t say no to the Queen! So penniless Lady Georgie manages to round up a “butler” (her grandfather) and a “cook” (grandfather’s lady friend) to set up a real house for a short stay. But all is not working as planned when the Princess shows up with…
