Jane Igharo | 20 Questions: WHERE WE END & BEGIN
Author Guest / September 27, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? WHERE WE END & BEGIN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Where We End & Begin is about Dunni and Obinna, who meet and fall in love as teenagers. But they’re separated when Dunni goes to America for college. Twelve years later, Dunni goes back to Nigeria for a friend’s wedding and sees Obinna again. As they reconnect, secrets from the past come to the surface. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? As a Nigerian, most of the stories I think of automatically take place in Nigeria. I really enjoy describing Nigerian settings and bringing that to readers who may never visit Nigeria. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes, I would hang out with one of my protagonists, Dunni. But it would be the teenage version of her, whom I loved writing. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Teenage Dunni is fearless, honest, and funny. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Things aren’t always what they seem. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I do a little of…

Jane Igharo | Exclusive Excerpt: THE SWEETEST REMEDY
Author Guest / September 28, 2021

CHAPTER SIX San Francisco On Monday, Hannah made the biggest decision of her life. In response, her mother called a man named Dayo. And a day later, Dayo emailed Hannah a business class plane ticket. Destination: Lagos, Nigeria. On Thursday, a day before her departure, Hannah pushed a fork through bits of kale and tried to ignore the anxiety that had given her a sleepless night and an unproductive morning in the office. Despite her attempt, the nerves were impossible to disregard. She tossed the fork on the plate and huffed. “Not hungry?” Flo said, pulling round sunglasses from the crown of her head and over her narrowed eyes. “You’ve hardly eaten a thing.” “I don’t have much of an appetite today.” A fly buzzed above Hannah’s head. She swatted it and protected her drink with one hand over the rim. The salad, she didn’t bother to guard. She had given up on it, her growling stomach be damned. “Maybe we should have gotten a table inside.” Flo dipped sweet potato fries into a glop of ketchup. “It’s so damn hot today.” And the massive umbrella wedged in the middle of the round table did very little to ease their…

Jane Igharo | Exclusive Interview: TIES THAT TETHER
Author Guest / September 25, 2020

Hi, Jane! Welcome to Fresh Fiction. Please introduce yourself and tell us about your new book, TIES THAT TETHER.  I’m a Nigerian-Canadian author, and my debut novel, TIES THAT TETHER, is a contemporary romance about a Nigerian woman who promises her dying father she will marry a Nigerian man even after immigrating to Canada. But when she meets and falls for a man who is Spanish, she’s caught between her family’s wishes and her own. As a result, she tries to reconcile her identity as a Nigerian woman and her identity as an immigrant. This is your debut romance–congratulations! What has your journey into publishing been like?   Like many writers, I’ve had to deal with a lot of rejections before getting to this point. I wrote two books in two different genres–literary fiction and paranormal romance–before moving to contemporary romance. I learned a lot from those two novels that didn’t get published, and in 2016, I started writing my third novel, TIES THAT TETHER. I knew this one was something special, but I knew it wasn’t perfect. In 2018, I entered Pitch Wars, a mentorship program for writers. I was selected to be mentored by someone who completely understood…
