1–What is the title of your latest release? THE LONG MARCH HOME: A WWII Novel of the Pacific 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Three best friends from Mobile, Alabama enlist in the Army in 1941 and are shipped off to the Philippines. Within hours of the December 7 bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Philippines is attacked and the boys are plunged into a war that will culminate in the largest ever American surrender and the atrocity known as the Bataan Death March. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Marcus: Twelve years ago, I read an oral history project about Bataan, and I became fascinated with the subject. We wanted to immerse our readers in the setting. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Tosca: For sure. Jimmy loves playing football, fishing, and hanging out with his best friends. Marcus: Yep. Jimmy’s a good friend. 5–What are three phrases that describe your protagonist? An everyman. A preacher’s kid but he doesn’t want to be. He always tries to do the right thing. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Tosca: I actually was unaware of the events that…
1–What is the title of your latest release? THE DARLINGS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? The Darlings is about a family gathering at their Cape Cod beach house for a summer wedding, told from the viewpoint of three generations of women. One has been keeping a secret, one wants to tell it, and the youngest have no idea what this secret will do to their senses of identity and places in the family they thought they knew. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? All my books take place in small New England coastal communities, and this one takes place in Chatham, Cape Cod. I grew up in Connecticut, but my family spent many summers vacationing on the Cape. These days I bring my own children. My settings are much like characters in my books. Each one I write, it feels like coming home. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? It depends on which one! There are three in The Darlings: great grandmother Tish, grandmother Cora, and young mother Andi. For me, the matriarch, Tish Darling is terrifying, but I also have a lot of respect for her…
1–What is the title of your latest release? GHOSTLY GAME 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Mystery meets scifi in this GhostWalker tale of murder, secrets, and passion. I don’t think I’m any good at “elevator pitches”. I love this book and it is so different from the previous ones in the series. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? This is a military paranormal romance in my GhostWalker series which has four established teams. So, the location was already chosen when I picked the Urban Warfare team. I live close to San Francisco, CA. so I’m familiar with the city and its people. The city is so interesting, so it makes it fun as a setting for a book. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Yes. I write heroines that I can admire, so it would be fun to hang out with Rory. She’s independent, supportive of her friends and courageous. Plus, she’s loyal and caring. She’d be great to have as a friend. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Hot, brooding, soldier. Or maybe – lethal, confident, and hot. Definitely hot. lol 6–What’s something you…
Chapter 4—Jo The Early Wolf Catches the Witch Booker the Wolf smiled at me, flashing matching dimples on either side of his mouth, and I nearly laughed, despite the momentary shock and heightened apprehension electrifying my body. He was leaning against a mirror in jeans and a long coat, one booted ankle resting on top of the other, with his arms crossed over his chest. It seemed like he took the pose to look more casual and less intimidating, and it worked. Somewhat. “I guess the early wolf catches the witch?” I said, looking away and placing one fingertip along the silvery surface of the mirror to my left. “Something like that,” he allowed, his voice as smooth as good Scotch. “And hello to you, too, Jo Murphy.” Then he cocked his head, eyes sharpening, and added, almost as an afterthought, “Your hair is longer.” This time, I couldn’t hold back a chuckle, especially at the momentary chagrin that crossed his features. I don’t think he’d meant to say it, and that momentary fumble, more than anything else, helped me relax a little. “Funny thing about hair,” I deadpanned. “It just grows on you.” His grin was real this…
Fresh Fiction challenged me to describe my new release, DREAM RIDER, using the letters of the title. It just so happens that trying new things and becoming more daring is the heroine, Emily’s, goal. So, challenge accepted! D – Dreams R – Realm (as in the dream realm where Zane does his work) E – Emily (our heroine) A – Astral projection (how Zane gets to the dream realm) M – Moon R – Risk taker I – Impulsive D – Dirt biking E – Escalating R – Repercussions DREAM RIDER by Kimberly Dean Dream Weavers #3 The long-awaited continuation of the paranormal series from the dawn of steamy romance… As a Dream Weaver, Zane Oneiros isn’t supposed to hitch rides on the dreams of his charges, but he can’t help himself when the dreamer is Emily Hutchins. In the waking world, Emily is his work friend. Beautiful, conscientious, and prompt. Zane is known for being brash, fun-loving… and a bit too reckless with the powers handed down to him from the Greek gods of ancient past…. Could an introvert extrovert romance even work? All Zane wants to know is if Emily thinks about him while she sleeps… if there’s any…
1–What is the title of your latest release? FOURTH WING 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? An elite war college for dragon riders where the foremost rule is graduate or die. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Answer: It seemed natural to lean into the background of my military family and lean into a war college setting. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. She’s a lot like me. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Resilient, tenacious, smart 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? The physical differences between dragons and wyvern in western mythology. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Both? I edit as I draft for the first half, then keep a list and go back after the draft is complete for the second half. 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? Chips & queso 9–Describe your writing space/office! It’s centrally located in my house, which is awesome because I’m easily accessible to my kids, but also tough because it’s so accessible to my kids, lol! It’s really ergonomic to help with my connective tissue disorder and has…
1–What is the title of your latest release? MAGICIAN AND FOOL – Book One, Arcana Oracle Series 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Pamela, a seer and empath hired by a cult to design tarot cards, must summon the muses of her cards, High Priestess and Empress, to help her thwart Aleister’s demons and stop the Carlists from trying to destroy all female rulers. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Magician and Fool is based on the real-life Pamela Colman Smith who lived in London, Jamaica, and New York in the later part of the 19th century, so I was lucky to have lush, exotic and fascinating environments already suggested. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I would have loved to attend one of Pamela’s Bohemian Soirees that she held in her flat in Chelsea in the early 1900s. Part-performance, part-social event, these soirees were attended by some of the most fascinating artists and authors of the day. I would have been there in a New York minute! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Talented, psychic and ambitious describes Pamela Colman Smith. 6–What’s something you learned…
1–What is the title of your latest release? THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS, book 2 in the Cape Cod Creamery series. 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? But she made that mistake for a reason that time won’t help. When her cousin drags her to a class on happiness, the instructor – curiously gloomy and demanding – has a way of turning her feelings upside down. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? My editor made that call! She wanted a book about ice cream, and she wanted Cape Cod. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Definitely. When you hang out with Callie Dixon, you start thinking you can do anything! She has that kind of positive effect on others. Callie is inspired by my niece, Hilary, who is one-of-a-kind! My sister called her “Hurricane Hilary.” Everyone adores her. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Vivacious, optimistic, enthusiastic. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I studied quite a…
1–What is the title of your latest release? TO DIE BEAUTIFUL 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In Nazi-occupied Holland, shy law student Hannie Schaft surprises herself by joining the armed resistance to save her Jewish friends, becoming the Most Wanted Woman in Holland and risking everything to do the right thing for the people she loves. Based on the true story of Hannie Schaft. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Hannie Schaft (and most of the other characters in the novel) were real people, and although Hannie is not well known outside The Netherlands, she is a hero there. I discovered her story on a visit to Amsterdam and, once I began working on the book, traveled to the real locations in the book to do research. Although my book is a novel, I tried to stick to the real places and events as much as possible, so they dictated the setting. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Oh yes – it would be an honor to know someone as brave, smart, and big-hearted as Hannie Schaft, not to mention Truus and Freddy Oversteegen, the amazing young…
