I always love to visit with Fresh Fiction! 🙂   Can you give our readers a “primer” of your paranormal world? Do you find creating supernatural settings difficult or easy? My paranormal world is set in the real world, but technically apart. They don’t interact with humans unless they have to, and humans don’t know of the existence of these supernatural creatures. While the dragon shifters are the focus of my Inferno Rising & Fire’s Edge series, in Brimstone Inc., we get to see other paranormal creatures in the same world and what’s going on with them. World building is one of my favorite parts of writing paranormal romance. Thinking of the powers and the world in which they would exist. Thinking of how they’d interact with others. In this scene from Hard Lust, Megan has continued to break countless rules—a no-no in Hell. Aroused by her spunk, Vespar tosses her over his shoulder and carries her to the club’s voyeur area. *** Megan hoped breaking the rules didn’t mean she’d have to face her demons—for real. Working double shifts at Sally Jean’s had almost killed her. Down here, she didn’t have the luxury of checking out permanently, only an eternity without any employee rights, raises, or bonuses. Upon climax, the servers and demons they passed wore ecstatic grimaces, each lost in their own world that had taken them far from the ordeals here. Maybe they were on to something. Hell might be hell, but sex with Andros, Racan, and Vespar, three of the hottest demons around, was another matter…

Ironically, Steele, the man, has a hard time dealing with the death of a loved one. Now, Steele wants to save a woman he saw in his dream, Ravyn, but Ravyn’s used to saving herself. A victim of Burgess’ corrupt government, Ravyn has created a safe place for others like her so when Steele comes around talking about cursed Egyptian daggers and vicious vampires, she’s reasonably skeptical. With COVID-19, nowadays “quarantine”, “social distancing”, and “isolate” are common parts of our everyday vocabulary. While isolating is necessary right now, it can lead to varying levels of depression and other unexpected emotions – even for an introvert like me. As I was sitting in the quiet of my apartment, with my cat keeping vigil next to me, I was longing for any type of travel and human interaction. Travel and human interaction are not normally things that are normally high up on my “must haves.” While dystopian films and novels might seem like a natural for readers to gravitate right now, a lot of my friends have avoided those types of entertainment because it seemed off-putting. It’s as I was sitting at home in isolation that I thought of some of my favorite romances that take place in far off worlds and unique characters and bizarre situations that seem like just the thing to perk up a reader longing for travel, adventure, fun, and excitement. You might not be able to go far right now, but books provide an entertaining alternative. Although I don’t normally read sci-fi, something about the Cat Star Chronicles books by Cheryl Brooks intrigued me….

It’s the middle book in my Magic in Manhattan trilogy–not a standalone, but part of a 3-book romance series where two men from different classes fall for each other, fight to be together–and save 1920s New York from some very dangerous magic. 3–What word best describes Rory? Loyal. It’s hard for him to trust, but when he does, it’s for life. 4–What makes Arthur irresistible? They aren’t the monsters lurking under the bed. They’re the ones that kill them. 3–What word best describes your heroine?  The word that best describes Cassie Dobbs is strong. She’s seen and done more than most people can imagine. To walk away from it all, knowing it will mean her death takes strength, courage, and commitment. 4–What makes your hero irresistible?  Alexei is huge and quiet. Most people assume he’s all muscle and none too bright. That is a huge mistake. As he likes to say, he’s the total bear package—strength and determination mixed with a keen intellect and curiosity. My newest YA fantasy novel, Storybound, is about a girl, Edie Keller, who moves to the city where her favorite books are set (in this case Austin, TX) and when she walks through the doors of BookPeople, she walks into the world of those books. It’s all real. The good guys, the bad guys, the book boyfriend she’s been in love with forever. The book boyfriend who dies at the end of the last book. .  . Except he isn’t dead. Not yet anyway. And if she plays her cards right, she just might be able to save his life. Before I get to the actual Title Challenge, I have a funny story to share. I misunderstood the rules for this challenge when I read them. I thought I needed to describe my book using only anagrams of my book title. Which—I’ve gotta say—is a lot harder than the actual challenge. So first, I want to share my anagram solution: Broody book boy toy snubs nutsy nobody! Okay, okay. . . Heroines in romance novels: let’s discuss. A frequent topic among romance readers and authors involves heroines and the unequal way they can be viewed. There are two bones of contention to pick. The first is that a heroine’s life choices are viewed with a more critical and unforgiving eye than a hero’s choices. Secondly, that a heroine’s flaws and personality quirks are viewed more harshly than those of a hero. I believe that both things are very real, but I will only admit to unconsciously doing the latter. If a character – whether male or female – makes life choices that I disagree with, as long as the character is fleshed out and well-written, I won’t judge and I’m still able to enjoy the story. However, if there are aspects of a character’s personality that rub me the wrong way, it’s difficult for me to put that aside and focus on where the author is taking me. As a woman, I often identify more with a female protagonist, and therefore have caught myself being overly critical of that character. This is something I’ve picked up on and tried to snap myself out of doing. Every reader has their pet peeve…
