Some Cozies for August Reading…
Sharon's Cozy corner / August 8, 2010

I’ve always loved August – Summer is winding down, and though it’s still hot as a firecracker in most places, by the end of the month there is a hint of cool relief to come. Plus there is that enticing scent of new crayons in the air as the kids get ready to head back to school! There is still plenty of time to indulge in a little cozy reading at the beach, or in the comfort of your own air-conditioned haven. And this month sees a wide variety of new cozies to choose from -there’s a little something for everyone here! Leading the way into August is Cleo Coyle’s latest installment of her Coffeehouse Mystery series, ROAST MORTEM (Berkley Prime Crime; $24.95). After being rescued by the firefighters of Ladder Company 189, Village Blend coffeehouse owner Clare Cosi is more than happy to come teach her new heroes how to make a good cup of coffee with their new espresso machine. While getting to know her new friends, she learns that somebody is touching café’s around town, putting the firefighters in more than usual danger. So being the natural nosy sleuth that she is, Clare begins to poke around,…

Sandi Shilhanek | Reliving RWA In My Dreams
Sundays with Sandi / August 8, 2010

When I thought about the blog post this week I really wanted to be bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed detailing the totally wonderful time I had in Orlando at RWA 2010. However, I am sick, and while I understand that it’s a side effect of being worn down from the fun I had, I’m really ready to be over the sick, so I can truly reflect on the fun! I had the chance to attend RWA due to the generosity of Sara Reyes, and Fresh Fiction. It truly was a wonderful experience, and I would suggest anyone and everyone take the opportunity to attend even if like me you don’t think you want to be an author. Being surrounded by the amazing people of the publishing industry is really inspiring, and I have to admit had me giving a fleeting thought to writing a book. For all you other aspiring authors…your chances are still safe, because I don’t see myself writing a book, and I’m beginning to believe if you can’t visualize it you can’t achieve it. There were so many highlights, but two that really stand out was the opportunity to meet Robyn Carr. If you’ve been reading me you know…

Fresh Thrills | Can you handle Suspense in August?
Fresh Thrills / August 7, 2010

My birthday falls at the end of August. When I was a kid I hated the fact that my birthday was during summer break because I never got to celebrate with cupcakes or cookies in class. Now that I work at a University, I find that my birthday falls on, or shortly after, the first day of school which means birthday celebrations come second to the start-of-semester madness. This year my birthday falls on a Sunday so I’ll have the day off. I think I’ll make it a “lazy day” and spend the day reading some romantic suspense. August has some great selections, which book should I choose? Hmmm. DESPERATE DEEDS Dee Davis A-Tac #3 Grand Central Publishing; $6.99 A-Tac, an elite CIA unit masquerading as faculty at an Ivy League college, is back. When a thieves steal a shipment of thermonuclear detonators, Commander Solomon has reason to suspect that information from inside A-Tac facilitated the heist. He instructs his team to set up a sting to recover the detonators and to trap the traitor. Operative Tyler Hanson is skeptical when Solomon appoints renowned physicist and Nobel Prize winner Owen Wakefield to head the team. Sparks fly as they work…

Sara Reyes | It’s hot, I’m lazy, What’s to read?

I survived another BIG conference, this time in Orlando at Walt Disney World. I think it’s actually the only time in my life to date I’ve been in Orlando and NOT gone for at least half a day to the Disney Parks. Sorry, can’t count the back lot experience in getting to the Living Seas Harper Collins party this time. Because it was really back lot. Don’t fault me, I enjoyed seeing the “behind the scenes” but since it was “business” I have to count it in the “not seeing Disney” column. Did get to see the glamorous Eloisa James and effervescent Wendy Corsi Staub at the party. Then rode back with Jenna Petersen which is always a treat! It’s odd, you met someone years ago and they stick with you for YEARS in a very good way! Only sad thing, I did NOT get a pirate hat OR a tiara. And we know how much I love tiaras! But what did I see this year? Staying in the Boardwalk Inn, I did get delicious breakfasts at the bakery each morning, ah I miss the chocolate croissants. Ah, just the croissants in general were delicious and who can avoid a…
