Cait Nary | Author-Reader Match: SEASON’S CHANGE
Author Guest / February 4, 2022

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors as a reader you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Cait Nary! Writes: I write character-driven M/M hockey romance that’s not scared to tackle the darker side of hockey culture. As a hockey fan with her eyes open to the sport’s shortcomings, I wanted to write a book that grappled with the challenges of falling in love in an environment that is profoundly heteronormative and steeped in toxic masculinity. In SEASON’S CHANGE, Olly and Benji spend all their time together—on the ice, in the locker room, in their shared apartment—and learn that ignoring their unspoken feelings isn’t an option. About: A Southerner who somehow managed to stumble my way into hockey fandom, my interests include yelling “Shoot!” at the Philadelphia Flyers; cheering for whoever is playing against the Washington Capitals at my closest geographic hockey arena; and refusing to learn how to interpret advanced hockey analytics. I’m a big fan of arena-sized light beers and collecting more hockey-themed snapbacks than I will ever be able to wear. What I’m looking for…

Author Guest / December 10, 2021

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors as a reader you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Katy James! Writes: I write sweet and sexy romance stories that get to the heart of falling in love and finding one’s place in today’s world, and where the happily-ever-afters are satisfying, empowering, and available to everyone. In my debut romance, TOO MUCH MAN, Gavin is a retired hockey star about to leave Philly to work for his hometown team. Piper’s a bisexual cafe owner who doesn’t want a relationship with a cis man. They agree to a no-strings-attached sex deal, because what could possibly go wrong? TOO MUCH MAN is the first in the Firebirds series, with book two following in Summer 2022. About: Hometown: I grew up in the Boston area, but over twenty years ago moved “for just a couple years” to Philadelphia—and never left the area. Currently: I live in an adorable historic town close to the city. When I’m not writing, I’m a single mom and work as an archivist and rare book librarian. Hobbies: wrangling…

The Out on the Ice series features Sapphic women’s hockey romances. These strong athletes find love on and off the ice. Their friendships, teammates and found families play an integral role in each woman’s journey to happily ever after. UNEXPECTED GOALS is the second book in the series. International competition has created a bitter rivalry between them. Now teammates in the women’s pro league, they have to learn how to play nice in order to win. What they didn’t expect was falling for one another. U is for Uniforms. Maisy and Jen wear different ones on their national teams, but now don the same uniform for the Boston Ice. N is for Nature. They find common ground in their love of the outdoors. E is for Enemies…to friends…to “Oops! Feelings!” X is for EXpedition Unknown. Rachel Reid | Title Challenge: ROLE MODEL
Author Guest / August 9, 2021

Thanks so much for inviting me to give readers a bit of info about ROLE MODEL! This is the fifth book in my Game Changers m/m hockey romance series. NHL star Troy Barrett has recently been traded to the struggling Ottawa Centaurs after calling out his Toronto teammate and best friend, Dallas Kent, during practice after learning some horrible things about him. On top of being disgusted by his now ex-best friend, Troy has also been recently dumped by his secret boyfriend of two years. Now he finds himself heartbroken, angry, and alone in Ottawa. Harris Drover, the social media manager for the Ottawa Centaurs, is friendly, cheerful, and openly gay. He is wary at first of Troy because he comes with a reputation for being a jerk, but he finds himself fascinated by the sullen, and undeniably gorgeous, hockey star. Harris is determined to make Troy smile, and Troy is determined to become a better man. R is for Rozanov, Ilya. He’s a major supporting character. O is for Ottawa, the city the book is set in. L is for laughing way too loud, which Harris does all the time. E is for eggnog season, Harris’s favorite time of…

Rachel Reid | NHL Players over 35
Author Guest / September 22, 2020

The fourth book in my Game Changers series, COMMON GOAL, focuses on NHL goaltender Eric Bennett as he plays his final season at the age of forty-one. I turned forty myself earlier this month, so writing Eric felt personal. Even though I basically have nothing in common with Eric besides the fact that we are both extremely hot. Speaking of very hot adults, I have compiled a list of five dreamboat active NHL players who are thirty-five or over. These are the mature hunks that you need to watch now before they retire (presented in no particular order). Henrik Lundqvist – New York Rangers I like my men like I like my bookshelves: tall, dark and Swedish, and King Henry ticks every box. That trim beard, those bespoke suits, those silver blue eyes…damn. He’s two years younger than me, but I would still call him Daddy and not even feel weird about it. Does he do a little underwear modeling on the side? Of course he does. Did he openly weep when his best friend was traded last season? Yes, because he’s a confident king who isn’t afraid of his feelings. Will he ever win a Stanley Cup? Probably not,…

Kelly Farmer | Author-Reader Match: OUT ON THE ICE
Author Guest / August 25, 2020

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors as a reader you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Kelly Farmer! Writes: Hi there! I write contemporary romance and light women’s fiction with snarky humor and heart. My debut novel, OUT ON THE ICE, is a female/female hockey romance. Caro runs a successful all-girls hockey training center and is embarrassed to be given a shout-out here. She’s very private. Amy, however, is thrilled to meet you. She’s an out and proud bisexual who plays professional women’s hockey. They develop the feels while coaching at Caro’s summer camp, then start a long-distance relationship. Caro’s need to be private clashes with Amy living life out loud. Through the power of love, they bring out the best in one another and work together to achieve their goals. Yay! About: I’m an Aquarius who enjoys long walks in the moonlight, candlelight dinners… I try not to take life too seriously, obviously. Writing has been a passion since childhood. It took 20 years to achieve publication, so I’m also rather stubborn and refuse to give…

Avon Gale & Piper Vaughn | Exclusive Excerpt: TRADE DEADLINE
Author Guest / August 18, 2020

Daniel sighed, the sound lost to the thud of their skate blades on the rubber mats lining the tunnel. He hadn’t anticipated the chilly reception when he arrived in the Thunder’s dressing room that first day of training camp–and now he finally knew why his breath had practically been fogging whenever he was in the presence of his new teammates. Apparently there was some resentment about his win. Probably some assumptions about his reasons for being there or how he would behave. Never mind that Daniel had worked his ass off for more than a decade before he could add Stanley Cup champ to his resume. He’d fought his way there–tooth, nail, broken bones, and bloody lips. It hadn’t come easy, and he didn’t take it for granted. Nor did he think he was hot shit now that he had a championship win under his belt. He was just trying to play hockey, same as he’d done all his life. Daniel poured onto the ice with the rest of his teammates and sucked in a breath, the cold, crisp scent as familiar and comforting as the sound of his blades cutting into the ice and the roar of the crowd….

Rachel Reid | Exclusive Interview: TOUGH GUY
Author Guest / January 13, 2020

Welcome to Fresh Fiction, Rachel! Please introduce yourself and tell us about your latest novel, TOUGH GUY. Thanks for having me! TOUGH GUY is the third book in my GAME CHANGERS m/m hockey romance series for Carina Press. It’s sort of a second-chance romance story, but the first-chance never really happened so I don’t know what exactly you would call it. Second chance at a chance? Ryan was billeted by the Salah family when Ryan was a 17-year-old hockey player in Halifax, and he developed a crush on their son, Fabian. They reunite many years later as adults in Toronto. Ryan Price is a professional hockey player and has worked hard for the success in his life, but he still feels like something is missing. You’ve even described him as a “giant sad teddy bear.” Tell us more about Ryan! Ryan is a reluctant enforcer in the NHL, which means his role on the team is mostly to be physical and to fight other players. He’s good at it, but he hates doing it. He has also been traded a lot, so he’s never really felt settled anywhere. Adding to that, he suffers from an anxiety condition that makes him…
