1–What is the title of your latest release? GOOD ON PAPER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? GOOD ON PAPER follows a struggling journalist who is desperate to save her career. So much so, that she signs up to do a web series chronicling her wedding to her Internet famous fiancé in Cancún. The problem? The shows videographer is her former childhood best friend and the one who broke her heart. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Part of the book takes place in the LA area (which is where I am originally from) and the second half takes place in Cancún, Mexico. Since I have Mexican heritage on my dad’s side, and Cancún would be a beautiful place for a televised wedding scenario, the second part of the book felt like a good fit there! 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Demonology Professor Sarah Prescott left the demon of her dreams at the altar after he went human for her. Now, they’ll have to work together to solve her best friend’s murder and stop a group of rouge demons from ending the world. 3– Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? What’s she like? Sarah is a bit of a book worm with a crazy family life, so we’d have a few things in common. She’s someone who is focused on learning the rules and following them. Early on in her life, she learned those rules won’t always keep you safe. In response to that, she became a demonology professor, because demons always follow the rules. Her love of order and desire to keep things organized is something I can relate to. Along the same lines, researching the hierarchy of hell was one of the more interesting parts of writing this book. Yes, I am a fan of Jane Eyre! Beyond that, I am really intrigued with how a woman could assert her independence in Regency England. Earning her own income as a governess is one way to do that. From the start, Sophia has yearned to be independent from her family because she feels different from them, and so she decided to become a governess. However, like many of us, by the start of the novel, she is disillusioned with her job, so the question becomes: are there any other options available to her?   Your hero, John Anderson, is a doctor. How would you describe his personality? John is a very caring, anxious person. What inspired you to make this story with a “make a wish-life changed overnight” theme? I think the urgency created by a story that unfolds in twenty-four hours makes for a compelling, page-turning read as well as shows us how one day can change everything. As a reader, these are some of my favorite types of stories and from a creative perspective as a writer, I find it a really rewarding challenge to condense a full story into such a short time period. From the start, I knew Lucy would make a wish that would change her life, and I decided to set the story over the course of a single day when I started thinking about all the things women have to lie about in a twenty-four-hour period—from their appearance, to relationships, to life at the office. The fact that there was enough to fill a day from start to finish basically made the story write itself!   These kinds of stories can range from humorous to drama and angst oozing out of every pore.
